A country in mourning

The last few days have passed in a state of devastation and disbelief. The Victorian bushfires are the worst that Australia has ever witnessed. How we in South Australia managed not to have a similar disaster is an absolute miracle. We had temperatures of up to 45.7 degrees and 12 days of over 35 degrees. We are all counting our blessings after ( Read more... )

*hugzzzzzzzzzzzzz* I forgot that you were in Australia. :( This is just horrible--and to think that someone deliberately caused this is hellish.

I know, it's just horrific what we are seeing on the news. My heart really goes out to all the poor people who have been affected.

The news footage has been horrifying. It's impossible to imagine being caught up in something like this. Fire is so savage.

Have to say, your PM brought a big lump to my throat :(

Hiya hon *hug* It really is so hard to come to grips with isn't it? I can't imagine either what it would be like.

He did for me too :( I actually have a lot of respect for him as a PM, especially compared to the last one!

*hugs you back*

You want them to get on with the job, which I'm sure he's doing, but at the same time it relieves some cynicism about politicians when they are so overcome with genuine emotion and almost mute with grief.

Too true. I think we are all shell shocked over here because we have never had anything on this scale since Cyclone Tracey in the 1970s

I was thinking about Brian as I thought he lived in Victoria. So glad he is okay.

Yes, I have to agree that Kev is a genuine Aussie all round nice bloke. Many may not agree, but I think he is doing a bang up job as PM.

I listened to some of the most harrowing stories I've ever heard the other night. It was all the poor folk that had been burned out and how they managed to get away, it was heart breaking;(
My sis lives on the outskirts of Melbourne and my nephews friends family were 'burned out' of their home, my nephew and some of their pals are collecting bits and bobs to help the family set up again, the sad thing is it will be happening all over Victoria.

And lastly, to the BASTARDS who lit some of these fires, I can only hope that when you are caught you are made to face the victims of this horror.
....and thats the least that should happen to them.

I'm so sorry to hear that your nephew's friend were affected but thank goodness they are all ok physically. Of course mentally it will take a long time for them to recover.
