Lootaz

Okay, I've started painting up my lootaz, so some WIP pics and commentary

Okay, so, first off, what do you get in the box? Normally, I'd stick a picture of the sprues here, but, um, I forgot. So, five bodies (and legs) in the box (unless you're Si Westerby, of course, who apparently got ten...)

And from the back

I stuck these together, and painted basic colours plus a single highlight. I used the red foundation paint, rather than my usual red gore as the base for the tunics, and wasn't that impressed. It covered over black, if anything, slightly worse than red gore, and tastes absolutely foul.

On the other hand, I seem to have a real problem with the dark reds in the regular GW range drying out, so...

Some individual observations on these models, starting with

Ugh. New legs, very four-square, not dynamic. Works well for the lootaz (I guess) but generally a bit dull. The body, though, is horrific. Don't like the bare-chested look, and this has a big square part on the back (see it on the group photo, above) where you are supposed to put either the ammo backpack, or the mek backpack. Bare-chested mek? I don't think so. I haven't really decided what I'm doing with this body - might try to make my own loota konvershun, which wouldn't be the worst option in the world.

Okay, the body is the same as one of the ones from the old sprue, but new legs. They are very similar to existing sets of legs, but have a metal patch on the left knee (right, as you look at it). Also, a loincloth.

Again, existing body (my least favourite of the four, in case anyone cares), and new legs. Again, similar to existing ones, but I'm not a big fan of the 'chompa' teef on the toes of the boots. What started as a nice idea has gone a bit 'bling'

Once more, existing body with new legs. Legs have a loincloth (something of a theme with these guys), and an odd patch on the left leg (who would patch a hole like that? In particular, what ork would?)

New body, new legs. Legs are more four-square - good for the lootaz, I guess, but less dynamic, and again we have a loincloth. Also, some bling hanging from the belt (teef, mostly). The body is similar to existing ones, but has some small pieces of armour strapped on. Looks okay.

Okay, having done the basic paint scheme on the bodies, I then stuck the guns together (surprisingly sturdy) and having checked that the guns would fit over the heads, stuck the heads on the bodies.

I then did a basic paint job on the heads and the guns, mostly to make sure that those hard-to-reach parts on the insides of the guns would be painted without fucking up the already painted bodies

Bodies

Guns

I then stuck the guns onto the bodies - not too bad, but require a bit of brute force, and meant that one of the guns needed regluing

Close-ups of the lootaz

I quite like this one - the barrel on the gun comes in a top half/bottom half configuration on the sprue which don't fit together well (as you can see), and the ejecting shells are from the sprue (not enough of them). The big barrel drum of ammo is very nice. Nicely orky gun.

I've used the mekboy head here, which I really like. Obviously, this is going to have a lot of work done on it. The gun is based on a space marine lascannon. This is the gun that I had to re-glue, as the mek head is a bit of a pain to fit around.

Like the first one, this is another nicely orky gun. I'd have liked to use the ejecting shells on this, as well, but you only get two strings, so I'd have only put one on here, which would have looked odd with two barrels. The rokkit is an add-on, 2 rokkitz on the sprue, a searchlight and a thing that I don't know what it is, but it looks kewl.

Stolen from a fish-head, this one. It's a bit more gubbinzy. The guns are all designed to go with specific left-hand side bitz, so to that you don't have an ammo feed going to a looted fusion gun (or whatever the fuck this is), which I quite like, but does mean that a mob of fifteen of these buggers is going to look a bit repe-repe-repetitive. Also, I'm not sure about the knives and blades strapped onto the rigs (on a couple, but more obvious on this one) - it's a bit chaotic, really.

Still, there we are. Not bad for about 4-5 hours work so far. Gaming standard, and I can work on them over the next couple of weeks. Lots of detail work to do on the gunz, a little on the faces, and then basing.

On the whole, quite pleased with them. I might have to go and get a box of the new orkses before too long...
