-What was your first abroad travel?
During the 2nd year of middle school I went to Hawaii for work. It was my first time at the Tv show "8ji da J", around 20 juniors had to run an half marathon. Me, Yasu, Maru, Murakami-kun and Yokoyama-kun left from Osaka, there I became good friend with Yamapi.
-What's your essential item for a travel?
The courage to step forward. I love when you're in a foreigner place, in Japan or not, and you feel lost. Even if sometimes I'm also scared, it's rather amusing. For example when I'm around Asia I walk thinking: "People may exchange me for a Korean or a Chinese but I'm Japanese ♪" (lol)
[Nonsense lol]
-Between the places you visited which is the one that left you a biggest impression?
Maybe France. I went there for a location during an old Tv show, I took lots of pictures yelling "Amazing!" watching the Notre Dame or the Triumphal arch. I also bought a pair of European limited edition sneakers, I was so happy. I still have them.
-How do you spend time inside the plane?
I read, watch movies, sleep, use the notebook. Mostly I read. In the past I used to play videogames too but I couldn't in take-off and landing trips. Even thought they're the most boring (lol).
-Tell us a troublesome episode during a travel.
Meals. When I arrive to a country I immediately search for a Japanese restaurant. The Gyuukaku and the Yoshinoya in Los Angeles were really good!
-A dish tasted abroad that you'll never forget.
Escargot and bread I ate in France! I'm a rice lover but that time the bread was really delicious.
-Which is the country you never visited and that you would like to visit the most?
Spain and Italy. I went to many places, I think it's a great luxury. That's why I'm jealous of people with lots of stamps in their passports!
-Which is the first thing you want to do once back in Japan?
Firstly I go to ear ramen! There's a restaurant where I eat my favourite ramen once a week, I feel nostalgic of it since when I'm in the plane leaving Japan, even though I usually eat cup ramen there. Sprinkling its scent everywhere (lol)
[Its stink...I like cup ramen but the scent is awful lol]
-Tell us an episode concerning souvenirs.
When I went in China I bought a Chinese pattern pajama and a weird doll for a friend. I thought: "What face will he do receiving the doll?" but in reality he was really normal when he saw it, I felt kinda let down...
-What makes you feel glad you're Japanese?
When I can sense our taste. When I eat ramen or rice. When I talk Japanese with all its many expressions.
[Oh right I love them too... =_= --> Giulia is in a current breakdown due to the proximity of her Japanese exam]
YAMAPI
-What was your first abroad travel?
My first abroad travel was when I was in 3-4 year of elementary school and I went with my family to Korea. I remember that the Bibinpa was a little too spicy, that I went to fashion streets like the ones in Harajuku and bought T-shirts. My friends were more jealous of me when I went to Hawaii though.
-What's your essential item for a travel?
Passport, tickets, Tshirts and underwear...that's all! There's something more to it? In the past I used to leave with just paper bags, now I don't do that anymore but I'd be ok with it ♪
-Between the places you visited which is the one that left you a biggest impression?
During the 5-6 year of elementary school I went to Hawaii with my family, I felt moved by the beauty of the sea. I thought: "This is real emerald green!". I was looking forward to it but it was beyond my imagination.
-How do you spend time inside the plane?
I read or watch movies. Reading the English subs and listening to the lines spoken it's a good way to study.
-Tell us a troublesome episode during a travel.
It's not really a trouble but I always miss Japanese food. There are Japanese restaurants abroad but it's always something arranged, I want to eat food as I always do.
-A dish tasted abroad that you'll never forget.
Chige soup in Korea. I ate it in April when I went there for my tour, it was super hot. I love spicy food so the level of spiciness was perfect. I want to eat it again!
-Which is the country you never visited and that you would like to visit the most?
Brasil! It's situated at the exact opposite of Japan, I heard it's the farest country so I'd like to find out how many differences there are with Japan. I look forward to its people, the weather. Of course I'd love to see the Carnival in Rio De Janeiro. It's ordinary but I'd love to experience it.
-Which is the first thing you want to do once back in Japan?
Nothing in particular. When I reach the airport and I read the signs in Japanese I turn into Japanese mood.
-Tell us an episode concerning souvenirs.
I buy only few souvenirs, just keyholders and ordinary objects. When I go to Hawaii I buy Macadamia nuts chocolate. If you're adventurous and they'll get throwed away it'd be too sad. Better to stay safe.
-What makes you feel glad you're Japanese?
I always think that. We all do our best, we are hard workers, modest and kind. I can't express it with words too well but I love all the atmosphere that the whole Japan gives out. This is what I think 'mother country' is.
TEGOSHI
-What was your first abroad travel?
Just after NEWS union I got to partecipate to an event in Taiwan, that was my first abroad travel. It was 2003 if I'm not wrong. That was my first time doing a passport. I remember that I was very nervous during the departure.
-What's your essential item for a travel?
I went many times to countries that require a long voyage with planes so the most essential objects are things to kill time there. Portable DVD player, consolles, books or magazines. I always buy books at the airport.
-Between the places you visited which is the one that left you a biggest impression?
Perth in Australia, I went there to shoot a CM. There was the sea and a lot of green. There was a nice relaxing atmosphere, it felt good just to stay there doing nothing.
-How do you spend time inside the plane?
To not feel too much the time difference I always plan my sleep. For example when I leave Japan in the morning to reach my destination in the morning of the next day, I try to not sleep the day of the departure. Like that I can sleep on the plane and arrive there without even noticing.
-Tell us a troublesome episode during a travel.
For ItteQ I always go to places that people don't usually visit for travels. Often in the hotel rooms there are insects and other animals. When I went in Guyana, South Africa, even if the hotel had 3 stars there were cracks in the door, the room was full of mosquitos. It couldn't be helped, even if it was very cold I slept all under the blankets. In Sunbawa, Indonesia, when I entered the bathroom I found a scorpion!
[Again this story >< I feel insects walking on my body everytime he talks about this! ><]
-A dish tasted abroad that you'll never forget.
I don't know why in Canada I ate Greek food but shrimps, squid, seafood, were really delicious! If I'll ever go to Greece I'd love to taste the real ones.
-Which is the country you never visited and that you would like to visit the most?
I always go to visit many countries but somehow I can never visit European countries with big soccer stadiums. I've been once in Italy for only 5 hours, I'd love to go to Spain, France, Germany and England.
[5 hours here? 8D]
-Which is the first thing you want to do once back in Japan?
When I come back from a ItteQ location me, the staff and the other pannelist always eat all together ramen in a parking area of the highway.
-Tell us an episode concerning souvenirs.
I always ask for shops to the coordinator of that country but in the end I buy them in the duty-free shops of the airport. There are many economic stuff. I always buy wine for me and chocolate for mom.
-What made you feel glad you're Japanese?
What I feel when I go abroad is that Japanese is always and anywhere clean. There aren't other countries in which the toilets are so fresh. Bidet-toiler are pretty everywhere too. Even if it's a period of recession I know we're a blessed country.
SHIGE
-What was your first abroad travel?
I went to Guam with my family. I think it was during the 3rd or 4th year of elementary school. I remember that the man who served us at the restaurant asked me things in English, I didn't understand so answered to everything with "YES!", in the end I had my dish stuffed up with food (lol)
[*____* So cute...and we know you'd still do this lol]
-What's your essential item for a travel?
A guidebook! When I go for the first time in a country I always bring with me the big ones full of informations, like the "Eart walking method", and the ones like magazines. To get to know a country better the first ones are great. Because they recommend a lot of places. The magazines ones usually tells the most touristic places only.
[I love how organized he is, I like guidebooks while traveling a lot too!]
-Between the places you visited which is the one that left you a biggest impression?
Dalì's museum in Spain. His playful spirit and works are amazing! Moreover since he explained his works by himself it's really interesting. He lived long so there are many pieces.
-How do you spend time inside the plane?
I read then I watch movies using my notebook. Because if you watch the ones aired in the plane they may be interrupted before the end. Once I was watching "The Da Vinci code" but I arrived 15 minutes before the end (lol)
-Tell us a troublesome episode during a travel.
I lost my wallet two days before leaving for an abroad travel. It happened 2-3 times already. I couldn't use my cards, I never get to fully enjoy a travel...
-A dish tasted abroad that you'll never forget.
When I went to Spain I tried a dish with bread, butter, olive oil and tomatoes. How to eat that was a mystere (lol). In the end I ate the bread and tomatoes separatedly, the next day I asked to a friend who lives there and he told me that the right way is to cut the tomatoes and eat the bread with their sauce. Once I tried it was definitively delicious, my mood went a little down since I kept getting dirty but it was so good!
[CUTE!]
-Which is the country you never visited and that you would like to visit the most?
France. People around me made fun of me: "You love traveling but you still didn't go to France!", it hurted so this year I definitively want to go there.
-Which is the first thing you want to do once back in Japan?
I always miss dashi (*Japanese soup) so I go to eat Japanese food. At Narita airport there's a restaurant where you can eat it, once I tried it coming back from New York, it was good.
-Tell us an episode concerning souvenirs.
The safest souvenir is Korean seaweed. Also long-life food. Anyway I don't like buying souvenirs so I usually go to travel stealthily. I buy them only for my parents and best friends.
-What makes you feel glad you're Japanese?
The food is good. In Japan there are many raw materials. The single 'Ebi' are shrimps abroad but we have lots of different species, Amaebi, BotanEbi...
MASSU
-What was your first abroad travel?
During kindergarten or elementary school I went to Cherating, Malaysia, with my family. I was very little so I don't have detailed memories, thinking back to it, I just remember that my dad found a lizard in his sandals and was shocked (lol).
-What's your essential item for a travel?
Last year I went to Sweden and Paris, I brought wet tissues with me and they were very helpful. I noticed that in foreigner countries in the restaurants there aren't wet towels.
-Between the places you visited which is the one that left you a biggest impression?
The starry sky I saw in Hawaii. There was a number of stars never seen in Tokyo, there were a lot of shooting stars as if it was normal. I wanted to make wishes but they disappeared too quickly, like "Ah! Ah!" (lol)
-How do you spend time inside the plane?
I watch movie, listen to music, eat, sleep, watch movie again...in loop. A word that I use a lot in a plane is 'Chicken'. When the cabin attendant asks: "Beef or Chicken?" (lol)
-Tell us a troublesome episode during a travel.
When I went to Hawaii with Nakamaru-kun we met a lot of Japanese couples, around 10 of them told us "We're in honey moon ♥". More than troublesome, it felt kinda frustrating...
-A dish tasted abroad that you'll never forget.
Mashed potatoes in Sweden, they were delicious! They were served with meatballs but they were so good that they didn't seem a side dish at all.
-Which is the country you never visited and that you would like to visit the most?
I want to go to Italy and feel on my skin the "MADE IN ITALY" like clothes and arts. I so want to eat real pizza and pasta!
[Good guy :DDD]
-Which is the first thing you want to do once back in Japan?
I want to eat Miso Soup, right (lol). In the past I used to put out my clothes and the souvenirs from the bags immediately, to go back to the normal life soon. Now I'm more adult and I want to enjoy travels as much as possible.
-Tell us an episode concerning souvenirs.
For my friends I buy limited edition T-shirts, for my family I usually buy sweets. The best souvenir are the pictures I took! Along with my detailed account (lol)
[Oh wow...really...thanks >_>]
-What makes you feel glad you're Japanese?
For example when you're abroad and you want to eat gyozas, you must search around or ask for restaurants, right? But in Japan you have no problems at all. I love this reassuring feeling.
KOYAMA
-What was your first abroad travel?
My first travel was with my family to Hawaii, I was 5 years old. I remember I was very scared to fly, to calm myself down I brought with me in the plane my Mickey Mouse plushie.
[AWWWWWWW x1000]
-What's your essential item for a travel?
I always want to smell my home's scent so I use to bring with me the towel I use as pillow cover at home. I sleep in the hotel with it so I can calm down feeling at home.
-Between the places you visited which is the one that left you a biggest impression?
Korea. I went there for the first time around 7 years ago and now I go there around once a year. A thing that impressed me in Korea is that a lot of people can talk Japanese. I was surprised by fans telling me "Koyama-kun, I support you!" or seeing people on the streets talking Japanese. This pushed me to start studying Korean. A place I always go there are the night department stores. You can do normal shopping for 3 hours after dinner! Isn't this cool?
-How do you spend time inside the plane?
I read books and newspapers. If I don't I get more and more nervous, I can't relax (lol). They are essential to shut up my heart.
-Tell us a troublesome episode during a travel.
When we went to China to support the volleyball team, when we did the check-in in the hotel and went towards the rooms, they were still cleaning them...I couldn't talk so me and Massu entered the same and stood all little in a corner of the room.
-A dish tasted abroad that you'll never forget.
When you order food in Hawaii with each thing you order they add a dish of rice. We were 4 people and we didn't know that, we ordered 7 dishes and in few time our table was full of rice's dishes, we were shocked. We ate until our limits. I feel full just thinking back to it!
-Which is the country you never visited and that you would like to visit the most?
Australia is close but I don't know why I still haven't visited it. When Shige went there he told me: "The scenary is wonderful, the food is good, it's a very nice place", I want to go there too. There are huge cliffs, right? The ones all brownish-red. Ayers Rock! Seeing them live must be moving!
-Which is the first thing you want to do once back in Japan?
When I travel I eat a lot of junk food so when I come back home I want to eat fresh sushi, I often eat it at the airport.
-Tell us an episode concerning souvenirs.
There are usual souvenirs like Hawaiian Macadamia nuts or Manjuu in onsen, but I wonder if giving such traditional products doesn't just show the ego of the traveler. I mean, people are really happy with them? That's why I never buy souvenirs. It's better to show the pictures I took and tell them funny stories.
[You're just hegoist XD I think that people are happy with whatever little present ^^ Because it means you thought to them!]
-What makes you feel glad you're Japanese?
Foreigner food is good. But I've born and raised between traditional Japanese food so I always yearn for Japanese meals. I love soy sauce's taste.
