DUET 2011.03 - NEWS & QUESTIONS FROM FANS


 

Massu

-Tell us a funny happening during the NEWS concerts!
We were surprised by the height we gained on the News Air Gondolas, we didn't expect to go so much high. I wasn't scared at all though, it was a true magic! Maybe it was thanks to the fans!

-What do you do in the dressing room before a concert?
Me and Tegoshi sing with loud voices, we do voice's exercises. We do stretching and take a shower and then we just relax waiting for the live. When I change my clothes to the scene costumes I naturally switch to the concert mode.

-What sweet did you like when you was a kid?
Fukashi (Seitan sweets), Tamago bolo (Egg bolo), Minicup Ramen. When I was a kid I often ate ramen as a snack. I still love those three things a lot. Recently I'm also into brownies cookies.

-Choose an animal for each NEWS member.
Yamashita-kun is a white bear. Nishikido-kun is a crocodile. Koyama is a baby deer. I'm not sure about the reasons though (lol). Then, Shige and Tegoshi are bunnies, it's their zodiac sign. By the way I'm an hippo. Hippos move slowly but they seem able to run fast. Eh? The others say I'm a pig? Well, I like pigs' character indeed but I'm not a pig! (lol)

-Which is your dominant hand?
I'm right-handed. I can't use the left but I'm pretty good with hands. When I was little I loved to create mini 4WD. I painted them, hollowed the windows, I was good with tiny handcrafts.

-Which part of your face do you like?
Mmm...I don't know. Everybody, I'd be really happy if you like the whole of me and not only little parts! (lol)

-What is a treasure to you?
Myself right now. The same are the members, the fans, the staff and all the people around me. All the living beings with whom I'm in touch are treasures. Naturally friends too. Recently I've been happy to be able to partecipate to a birthday party of a friend from middle school time. I mean, probably they thought to call me "Let's try with Massu too", right!? I'm happy that they decided to invite me in the end. We barely never meet but friends are really important!

-What do you do in your spare time?
Huh? Spare time? I guess I watch variety shows and stuff.

-What is the last movie you watched?
In the middle of November I went in Europe by myself, during the trip in the plane I watched 6 movies. Between them I liked "Toy Story 3"! I've watched the whole series of that movie, I like that fantastical world. Isn't it the kind of movie that make your heart feel better just watching it?

-When you go to the movies or to shopping in your private life do you get recognized by people?
I don't use any disguise so sometimes people recognize me. Once a mother with her child told me "My whole family support you!". Then I was also happy for a boy telling me "Please, do your best!". I'm always happy to hear cheering voices.

-What is the moment when you think that fans are nice or that you love them?
When we're having fun all together during concerts. When I can meet the fans I feel lot of power.

-Massu, you usually wear large clothes, don't you ever wear something else?
Basically I like large clothes up and down but sometimes I also use tight pants if I think they suit me. The ideal is tight under and large above. I can't stand too tight t-shirts though. I don't like to wear something uncomfortable (lol).
Shige

-Tell us a funny happening during the NEWS concerts!
During the song I sang with Koyama "Iitai dake" we had little acting parts too, in that meaning every time was full of happenings (lol) We mistaked on purpose, we did great sketchs...where did we really mistake? That's a secret.

-What do you do in the dressing room before a concert?
We spend around 2 hours in the dressing room before the beginning of the live. I get prepared doing stretching, I go in the bathroom and brush my teeth and I get ready. During concerts I set my hair by myself, I immediately get sweaty and everything is ruined so I keep a simple style.

-What sweet did you like when you was a kid?
In middle school I used to eat Strawberry Daifuku (soft rice cake with jam in it) going back home. They were those types that you can buy at the conbini in winter, I was attracted by the white color and their soft appereance. Recently I saw them and bought some again, eating them I got all nostalgic, the taste was really bringing back memories (lol).

Yamashita-kun is a cool eagle. Nishikido-kun is a hyena, a carnivore animal that can beat even lions. Koyama is naturally a squirrel, like a squirrel that keeps forgetting where he hid his food (lol). Tegoshi is carefree cat and Massu is obviously a pig. I'd be an herbivore animal like a bunny. But don't underrate me because I eat only good food! (lol).

-Which is your dominant hand?
I'm left-handed since the birth. The good point in being left-handed is that it sounds cool (lol). It's difficult to use scissors so it's got also bad points but I don't plan to ever adjust it. Ah, but swords are supposed to be used with the right hand so if I ever got into a sword battle I'll need a special training before. It's because I'd like to try an historical play!

[Sounds cool? *kick shige*   And btw firstly you're going to die after few seconds if you enter a sword battle lol, second WTF? XD]

-Which part of your face do you like?
None. If I really have to choose...my eyebrows? (lol) I've been often praised for my eyebrows.

-What is a treasure to you?
All the things I receive from other people are treasures. Friends and family are treasures too. Recently I spent the New Year's holidays with my family. We ate Zouni (Boiled rice cake with vegetables), watched TV, I spent time with all of them. I understand that they may be worried but they kept asking me questions, I told them they were bothering me (lol). I enjoyed this really ordinary exchange of words.

-What do you do in your spare time?
I watch movies or do shopping. I got used to go running too but if I go to run after many time the next day I'm all in pain (lol).

-What is the last movie you watched?
A friend invited me to see "Burlesque". The images were really pretty and the costumes were amazing, I recommend it.

[I already downloaded it (crazy much?) I'll tell you what I think, basically if it wasn't for Shige I would never have even tried to watch it LOL]

-When you go to the movies or to shopping in your private life do you get recognized by people?
Sometimes I get recognized. Recently in front of a cinema a foreigner girl (or boy? D:) saw me and asked me many things like "Which you see?" (He wrote like that but he meants "Which one did you see?" LOL)

-What is the moment when you think that fans are nice or that you love them?
During concerts I always think that all their smiles are wonderful. I'm also happy because it seems that they did their best to look pretty.

-Kato-san, you've born in Osaka too so why don't you talk in Kansai dialect like Nishikido-kun?
Because I've been in Osaka only when I was really little. I don't talk Kansai dialect at all, sometimes when I'm really annoyed I may end up using some expressions though. When I was little I liked "Yoshimoto Shinkigeki", it was based on popular things in Kansai. I feel out of place talking Kansai dialect so I try to not use it at all.

Koyama

-Tell us a funny happening during the NEWS concerts!
We went up to the Dome's ceiling with the News Air Gondolas and I was really shocked (lol). We used many things during our lives but that height!! I'm scared of heights so it was really scary to me.

-What do you do in the dressing room before a concert?
I listen to music, read a book, set my hair. The Dome's bathrooms is really big so me, Massu and Shige use it at the same time. By the way before the concert I'm always the most nervous. My hands shake a lot too (lol).

-What sweet did you like when you was a kid?
I always ate the èclairs from a sweets shop near my home. I still love sweet food like èclairs or donuts.

-Choose an animal for each NEWS member.
Yamapi is an okapi. It's a mammalian like a giraffe but the legs are striped, it kinda looks like a zebra. Doesn't it suit Yamapi which is both actor and idol? Ryo-chan is a cheetah. He can catch preys before they escape. Shige is a bunny. His front teeth make him look like one. Massu who is always so methodical is a racoon. The friednly Tegoshi is a Toy poodle.

-Which is your dominant hand?
Right. The left-handed seems good with hands, right? I'm not really handy, I can't even stick a thread on a needle.

-Which part of your face do you like?
Maybe the eyes. Between the members I'm the only one with single lids. When I sleep too much I get double lids though (lol)

-What is a treasure to you?
Something that recently is necessary to me is the headband that the make-up artist gave me. It's not like the ones that girls use, it's rolled like a wire. I can't stand hair on my face when I'm off so I can keep them up with it. Actually my image for an idol is with silky, smooth bangs (lol). That's why I'd never put my hair up for work. I think it's my way to switch from on to off.

-What do you do in your spare time?
I read. When I sit in a cafè reading a book is my blissful moment. One that was so interesting that I ended it in only 5 days was "Platina Data" by Keigo Higashino. I liked the suspence and now I'm reading "Etude" by Konno Bin. I can't wait to read it to the end!

-What is the last movie you watched?
I've watched a Korean movie, "Harmony", recommended to me by my senpai in News every. It's about a group of girls of a female prison who decides to put together a chorus. The main character gives birth to her child there but because of the law she can't hold her kid into her arms until at least 18 months, when they had to part from each other I couldn't stop crying...My mom was crying there too.

-When you go to the movies or to shopping in your private life do you get recognized by people?
I don't get recognized so much. In my day off I have rough appearances and I also use masks because of the pollen allergies so I guess I'm basically invisible (lol).

-What is the moment when you think that fans are nice or that you love them?
When I see everybody's smile during the concerts I think they're super cute. Being able to see the reactions of fans directly makes me happy!

-I'm no good with presentations. What can I do to be able to express myself well?
Itemize the things you want to say and try to squeeze them to 3 points. Like that you'll understand which are the most important things to say and you'll be able to explain them well. If you get too nervous encourage yourself that it all will be ok!!

Ryo

-Tell us a funny happening during the NEWS concerts!
It's also in the DVD but during Koyashige corner were aired some vtr of us in the dressing room. One of the members had to be in it so we decided it playing Janken and I won. That was an happening! (lol)

-What do you do in the dressing room before a concert?
Basically I always sing playing guitar. Then, 15 minutes before the live I take a quick shower, change clothes and join the others to form our circle.

-What sweet did you like when you was a kid?
Senbei (Rice crackers) with powder on them. I liked the sensation of powder in mouth.

Pi is a bunny! In the character and in the face too, he also seems like one because he tends to feel lonely. Shige is an hamster! Because he moves toddling (lol). Koyama is a fox! Because his face is the same. Tegoshi is a dog! His hair are all fuzzy and he's all playful. Massu is Mr.Pig! Uhuhuh, what can it be the reason!? By the way, I'm a Tyrannosaurus. Because it's cool (lol).

-Which is your dominant hand?
Now that I think about it there are many left-handed between the members. I'm ambidextrous. Since I've broke my right hand 4 times I became able to use the left one but when I go out to eat and a friend sits on my right I unconsciously use the left hand to eat. In soccer I use the left foot...Uhm, it's always been like this.

-Which part of your face do you like?
Mmm...My eyes, my nose, my mouth, so everything! Lie lie. Well, I guess it's the eyes. They're drooping eyes so they're cute, right!? (lol)

-What is a treasure to you?
Experience. My recent treasure is the performance in Shounen Clup Premium where I played with Saito Kazuyoshi. I like to perform copying but that time before the performance I asked him to teach me the right way to do the chords. I was super nervous but I had a great time.

-What do you do in your spare time?
Internet. I can search anything I want and find it immediately. Yesterday too I was watching a movie on DVD and I thought: "Eh? Isn't this actor the one on that movie?" so I went to search and I found out I was right. He was not the main character so I boasted up because now I'm able to recognize foreigners' faces too...that was my pride talking (lol).

-What is the last movie you watched?
I watch lots of DVDs but the last one I watched in a cinema was "Unstoppable" and "Tron Legacy".

-When you go to the movies or to shopping in your private life do you get recognized by people?
Sometimes it happens. Some time ago I was approached by a girl, she told me "Are you Nishikido Ryo-kun? I'm happy to meet you!" and went away. It seemed that she was really satisfied just telling me that, somehow it made me happy.

-What is the moment when you think that fans are nice or that you love them?
I already answered this in the previous answer, I'm happy when I'm approached in a somehow different way. But still if I receive fan letters with some criticism I feel down. Because I'm the type who wants to be praised (lol).

-I want a cute smile like Nishikido-kun's. Are there tricks?
There aren't but I think that smiles are the strongest point in people. I think that smiling faces are the cutest so when you're having fun just smile honestly, that should be enough.

Tegoshi

-Tell us a funny happening during the NEWS concerts!
I've did different cosplay like high school uniforms, nurses or Santas during the lives but this time I was a maid (lol). When I did cosplay I had to change in haste, it was the quickest change!

-What do you do in the dressing room before a concert?
I do jogging on the place then I stretch for 10 minutes and take a shower, that's the routine. After that I put on some music to get in the mood, in the dressing room I'm always the one most excited. The one who doesn't change at all is Yamashita-kun.

-What sweet did you like when you was a kid?
I used to eat pizza-flavoured or consomeé-flavoured potato chips. Recently I've not been eating sweets at all. Just a little now that I'm filming the drama sometimes I feel tired and crave for sweets so I eat a chocolate or a mint gum or a candy.

-Choose an animal for each NEWS member.
Yamashita-kun is doing boxing in his movie "Ashita no Joe" so he's a kangaroo. The first time I met Ryo-kun he had blond hair all combed back, I have this image of a lion. Keii-chan has long arms and legs and he moves stealthy so he's a fox. Shige is a turtle since he's so slow. Well, Massu is a pig. He also draws a pig face on his signature. I'm a bunny. Pyon pyon!

-Which is your dominant hand?
When I was little I was left-handed but now I'm ambidextrous. When I play pool I can play on whatever side and when I'm eating I can use the chopsticks according to where I sit to not hit the one besides me. It's useful.

-Which part of your face do you like?
Eyes. The color is pretty deep. Because it's not black but brown. What I like in girls? Legs. I like girls with pretty muscular legs than too thin ones.

-What is a treasure to you?
My family and friends. I always tell my mom when I'm going to be on tv, I hear her stories about work and I always do my best to be able to spend some time to buy her a present on her birthday. I've got such good friends that this year I spent Xmas and the Eve all days with my best male friend (lol).

-What do you do in your spare time?
Playing soccer. During the New Year holidays I went with my soccer friends to do snowboard. We always do that each year since 8 years, it's a little tradition. Doing snowboard and then going to the onsen is the best!

-What is the last movie you watched?
I've seen "The Incite Mill" and "Tron Legacy". They both were fantastic but they were good. By the way I always have to watch movies until the end of the ending titles. I don't want to miss the after story if there's one!

-When you go to the movies or to shopping in your private life do you get recognized by people?
I often get approached by little kids, men and moms saying "Are you Tegoshi-kun from ItteQ?". I'm happy that people know me because of the show.

-What is the moment when you think that fans are nice or that you love them?
When I see the fans all smily during the concert I think they're really cute. They also set their hair and dress up like for a date, it makes me happy.

-In "Dekawanko" you play the role of a detective, there's something you had to take care of for it?
In the original work my character has blond hair but Tabe Mikako-chan's got a flashy character already we decided to keep my hair black. It's a characher completely different from me, there's action too and every time there's a big change. It's an interesting drama!

Yamapi

-Tell us a funny happening during the NEWS concerts!
We flew with the News Air Gondola, we went so much high! Nobody of us knew that we would have gone so high during the show. We rode them and suddenly they went up gwaaah! We quite touched the Dome's ceiling, it was a light happening to me (lol).

-What do you do in the dressing room before a concert?
I listen to music to get in the right, excited mood. Well, we have to go out in front of a huge mass of people waiting for us, right? I think we can't go on the stage with our usual behaviour and mood. After that I do some stretching, because if I don't it's difficult to move freely during the live. It's important.

-What sweet did you like when you was a kid?
Mentaiko snacks. I often eat them during elementary school.

-Choose an animal for each NEWS member.
We're all monkeys! Because it's the animal closer to human beings. Ehm...you want me to give an answer for each member and explain properly? Well...we're all monkeys! Monkeys! Monkeys~! Please let me go with monkeys! (The staff agree) Yuhuuu! Thanks! (lol)

-Which is your dominant hand?
Both hands. During meals I hold the chopsticks according to the most confortable place. Maybe I can use chopsticks slightly better with my left hand. Honestly I don't know. Also the punching strenght is the same for both hands. But since when I was little I did calligraphy classes I write only with the right hand.

-Which part of your face do you like?
I don't really know. Decide by yourselves (lol). I can't say I love or hate my face. In the past I used to answer that my charm point are the eyes but I was still a kid and I thought that I had to always answer to questions like that so I thought that eyes could be ok for that...

-What is a treasure to you?
My preciousssss? The people surrounding me. Like family and friends. I should say NEWS' members too? (lol). I don't think that members are my treasure. I think of them as my comrades.

-What do you do in your spare time?
I sleep. Recently I can sleep only 1-2 hours during nights and I wake up at 7am. Somehow I wake up at that time. I can't sleep so much that it makes me sad (lol). Right now I'm busy and I check the song lyrics since the morning.

-What is the last movie you watched?
On DVD I watched "Shutter Island" and "Star Trek". The first one was thrilling but amusing. I really love Di Caprio-sama, he's so cool I wish one day to be able to work with him.

-When you go to the movies or to shopping in your private life do you get recognized by people?
It happens. I don't mind that at all. Once I was on a trip and many people gathered around me, it was kind of a problem. I don't mind to be spotted and stopped, it'd be an help if the things don't get too noisy though.

-What is the moment when you think that fans are nice or that you love them?
When I see them waving their arms towards me during concerts. I think they're cute and I feel so grateful because they came there for me. Including the fans of the other members too, see all them gathered for us it's the thing that makes me most happy.

-Yamashita-kun, you have the image of "super cool boy" but how are you when you're around the other members?
Basically I'm the bright big brother. Usually I'm not cool at all, I'm always myself, I'm natural!
