This is a gorgeous story. I love the glimpses of the life Spock and Jim had together and also in seeing how the rest of the crew's lives. This also feels very much like how Spock would grieve and how over all the years he's developed some of Jim's illogicalness. Such a wonderful story inspired by such innocuous prompts.

this story is beautiful and perfect and so goddamn sad that I cried like a baby while reading it.
thank you for writing such a wonderful story! it felt very real - as in this is how I would picture Spock feeling and acting after Jim's death. very believable and spot-on.
also, Bones' death totally broke my heart. ;_; urgh, I just have such a weak spot for the Bones/Jim friendship in K/S stories...

anyway, loved this to bits and pieces!

I almost didn't read this because I saw the deathfic warning and wasn't really in the mood to read about Jim's death and how sad and alone Spock was; I'm so glad I did read it. I'm still tearing and sniffling a little, but it was a good cathartic cry. I wouldn't describe this as deathfic so much as lifeficYour Jim voice was fantastic and I loved how you moved through his whole life through journals. The bits you gave, mixed with Spock's memories, were great snapshots that made their life vivid without feeling rushed. I particularly loved the Jim's evolution of feelings towards Spock over chess, Jim referring to Pike as 'that fucker', the apples, and Jim's Vulcan student and family. Spock's journey as physical metaphor for his grief was very well done. That line about his moving from Nyota's to Pavel's to San Francisco being his learning how to be alone particularly resonated with me ( ... )

Pretty much as soon as Nyota said she'd probably die next, I started to tear up. This was beautiful and now I am crying because it was so achingly sweet/sad.
