my mom is a fabulous cook, and i remember growing up with her constantly making all kinds of exotic foods with no fear. i think that's the key -- being fearless when you cook, don't be afraid to experiement and use your instincts over recipes. just because you may not make the best meal one time doesn't mean you can't perfect it the next time (or the time after that!). practice makes perfect and all that jazz.

also, i suggest you teach yourself the various spices and herbs so you can recognize them when you taste foods that feature the items. maybe you and desiree can learn together and quiz each other! cooking is such a great date-activity for couples; it's cheap and fun and you get to fill your belly when you're done!
