Synopsis: Reita has been down lately and Uruha is determined to find him a date. What Uruha doesn't know is that Reita has been down because he wants Uruha. Hmm...
Comments: I was tying up the loose ends of this while watching The Beach and I heard a quote and thought "Wow, that fits perfectly as a title. And it sounds so cool!"
Reita groaned, throwing himself onto the couch. He pressed the palms of his hands to his face, dragging them down the length of it slowly. He let his body roll off of the couch and on to the hard, concrete floor.
“What the hell is wrong with that boy?!” Kai asked, observing as he stood next to his drum set.
“Somebody needs to get laid! ~” Aoi said in a singsong voice.
“Who’s getting laid?” Uruha asked as he walked over from his guitar stand to join in the conversation.
“Apparently not Reita,” Kai said, watching as Ruki nudged Reita in the side with his foot-Reita swatting at Ruki’s leg lazily.
Uruha leaned forward asking, “Is that why he’s been PMS-ing lately?”
“Uh, sure,” Kai answered, knitting his eyebrows together.
“Man, we need to get on that and help him!”
“There’s a cure for that?" Aoi said, laughing as he looked at Reita lying on the floor as he gave up his attempts to get Ruki to leave him alone and just let Ruki stand on his ass.
“Aoi, you’re so mean!” Kai said, sighing.
“Hey, hey! We’ve got bigger problems. Blondie over there needs himself a friend.” Uruha said, a look of determination in his eyes.
------------------------------
“I can’t believe Uruha’s playing matchmaker! Why is he doing this to me?!” Reita whined, finishing off his outfit by pulling on a jacket.
“Maybe if you didn’t spend all your time looking so fucking miserable, he wouldn’t be trying to get you laid,” Ruki retorted, sighing as he reached up and styled Reita’s hair into a fauxhawk.
“I don’t mind that he’s trying to get me laid! I just mind that he’s trying to get me to do it with people that aren’t him,” he mumbled, scrunching his nose.
“HE DOESN’T KNOW ANY BETTER!” Ruki smacked the side of Reita’s head. “Stupid idiot!”
“I’m distraught! Can’t you be any nicer?”
“Can’t you be any smarter?” Their argument was interrupted by a knock at Reita’s apartment door. “That must be her. Go, go!” Ruki urged, shoving Reita towards the door.
Reita opened the door, plastering a smile on his face as he looked at the girl in front of him. He bowed, introducing himself “Hi, I’m Reita.”
She giggled, biting her lip and twirling her hair. “I’m Kimi.”
“Are you ready to go?” he asked, shutting the door behind him and holding his arm out for her. She nodded, grinning and giggling as she threaded her arm through his.
------------------------------
“I had no idea you planned to send Reita on a double date!” Ruki commented, talking on the phone with Uruha.
“A double date?” he asked, confused.
“Yeah: Reita, Kimi, and the titty twins. Those things were HUGE!”
“I thought she’d be easy! The ladies definitely love Reita, anyway. So, he’s surely gonna get some tonight.”
“Well, it was nice knowing you. I’ll be sad once Reita kills you!”
“Why would he kill me?!”
“She seemed like a total bimbo!”
“Whatever, he’ll thank me tomorrow.”
------------------------------
“Uruha! I CAN’T BELIEVE YOU! JERK!” Reita shouted as soon as he walked into the practice room and saw Uruha. He rushed over towards the guitarist, shoving him gently-angry, but not wanting to hurt him.
“What did I do?!”
“Hopefully not Kimi! I sure as hell didn’t! I basically had to pry her off of my side and shove her out of the car otherwise she’d never have gone inside her apartment!”
“I thought the idea was to get you laid!”
Reita sighed, rubbing his face. “Yeah, sure. Just… it would have been nice if she hadn’t traded in her brain for bigger boobs. 88% of her responses to anything I said were giggles.”
“Ack, fine. This next date will be better.”
“N-next date?” Reita stuttered, dumbstruck. He had been prepared to go back to pining over Uruha miserably. Surprisingly enough, he would much prefer that instead of another date.
“Your date was unsuccessful, yeah? Or did I miss something?” Uruha questioned, raising an eyebrow.
Reita turned towards Ruki, his facial expression begging his best friend to help him out of this situation. “Oh for Pete’s sake, just ask Uruha!” Ruki said. Reita seemed on the verge of tears so Ruki quickly added “…to find you a better date this time!”
Looking as if he were plotting Ruki’s death, Reita mouthed, “That’s not any better!”
Completely oblivious to the interaction between his two friends, Uruha enthusiastically said, “Oh this one will be better, I promise!”
------------------------------
Reita walked into Ruki’s apartment, smiling. He followed his friend over to his couch and both of them took a seat.
“So…” Ruki prompted.
“So…” Reita sighed, smiling.
“How was the date? Was she better than Kimi?”
“Oh it was super fun,” he said, nodding.
“…Really?” Ruki raised his eyebrow, surprised at Reita’s response and slightly disbelieving.
“Yeah,” he sighed happily. Reita folded his hands behind his neck, leaning back into the couch as he continued, “We had so much in common! She had the same favorite bands as me. She had the same favorite movie. She had the same favorite foods. She had the same favorite TV shows. The same favorite color…”
Ruki leaned forward, completely thrown off by the turnout of Reita’s date. Incredulously he asked, “Really?!”
“Uh huh,” Reita spoke as he grinned, “she even had the same favorite magazine. And I’m sure if I asked her, she’d have told me she had the same favorite childhood memory as me, too,” Reita finished with what was now apparent to be false happiness and a sarcastic tone.
Ruki threw one of his couch pillows at Reita-who caught it and hugged it to his torso, slumping against the couch cushions. He scrunched his face in discontentment, groaning. “I’m tempted to tell Uruha it was good just to get him to quit setting me up with girls.”
“Here’s a crazy idea. What if-now, bear with me here because this is crazy-but what if you asked Uruha on a date, since you want him so badly!”
“I can’t!” Reita said as he fell into a lying position on the couch, letting the pillow he had been clutching drop to the floor. He covered his face as he rolled onto his side and curled his legs into his body. “He obviously doesn’t want me, seeing as he’s trying to set me up with someone else!”
“You don’t know that,” Ruki offered more gently as he shook his head. He almost couldn’t help laughing as he looked at his best friend lying on the couch. Reita really looked like he’d be ecstatic to have a piano drop out of the sky and land on him, putting him out of his misery. “He’s gonna keep finding you dates, Rei. He wants you to get laid,” Ruki said, laughing as he uttered the last part.
“Well I don’t want to!” he whined, causing Ruki to laugh.
“Oh, no! We wouldn’t want that! OH, NO! Not sex!”
Reita rolled off the couch, screwing up his face as he stomped towards the door. “I’m leaving!”
“Go talk to Uruha!” he managed to yell after Reita, before his apartment door slammed.
------------------------------
Reita answered his door, letting out a surprised “Oh!” as he saw Uruha standing in front of him. “Hey, what’s going on?” he asked, gesturing for his friend to come inside.
“I just wanted to see how your date went,” he walked inside, heading towards the living room and collapsing onto an armchair. Reita shut the door, sighing a little as he walked over to his couch and sat down.
“Yeah, about that….” he trailed off. Reita paused and then clasped his hands together, shaking them desperately as he pleaded, “Uruha, I beg you. Please don’t set me up with anymore girls!”
Uruha’s jaw dropped and his eyes widened, “You want me to set you up with a guy?”
“N-“ Reita started with a shake of his head, but abruptly stopped and said. “Yes I do.”
------------------------------
“You asked him to set you up with a guy?! Why the fuck would you do that?!” Ruki asked, laughing in disbelief.
“Well, now he knows I like guys,” he answered lamely, tugging at a loose thread on his pants leg.
“You could have asked him out on a date and he would have known you liked guys then, too!” Ruki threw his hands above his head, sighing. He scratched his neck, a look of contemplation on his face. He chuckled. “It’ll be interesting to see what kind of guy he picks. Especially seeing as he had no idea you even swing that way until now.”
There was a moment of silence before Reita tugged on his hair, mumbling “I forgot this meant I’d actually have to go on a date with a guy…”
------------------------------
“OW!” Reita yelled, swatting Ruki’s arm away as he covered his eye.
“Well maybe if you’d sit still this would be a lot easier!” he scolded, pushing Reita’s hand off of his eye so he could finish putting on Reita’s eyeliner.
“I’m just nervous. This date could be the worst date of my life!”
“Or… you could have a blast and forget about Uruha,” he replied, putting the lid on the eyeliner and tossing it on the bathroom counter. He picked up Reita’s noseband and handed it over and watched as Reita tied it around his nose.
He sighed, glancing at Ruki skeptically before pushing himself off of the counter where he was sitting. “I don’t see that happening,” he disagreed.
There was a knock at Reita’s door. “That must be Prince Charming,” Ruki remarked, leaving the bathroom with his apprehensive friend at his heels. Ruki peered through the peephole, snickering at the glasses-clad, sweater-vest wearing, pocket-protecting, classic example of a geek that met his eyes. “Oi, Rei! You’ll love this guy! If you squint, he kind of looks like Uruha!” Ruki opened the door quickly, not waiting for Reita to respond to anything he said. “Hi there! I’m Ruki and this is the ever-lovely Reita-san!” he introduced, gesturing towards Reita as he held the door open farther. Reita looked as if, and even jerked as if, someone just hit him in the face with a frying pan. “You’ll have to excuse him, he’s a tad shy,” Ruki informed the guest with a grin.
He snapped out of his shock, shaking his head slightly before he bowed and said, “It’s nice to meet you.” If Ruki had thought Reita was fidgety before, that was nothing compared to this guy. His focus darted around the room while his eye twitched every so often and he dusted off the front of his shirt with a frequency one could set a clock by.
“Ah, hello. I’m Manabu,” he introduced himself, bowing several times.
With a smile and a nod, Reita led Manabu out of his apartment, glaring at Ruki before shutting his door.
------------------------------
“I didn’t know it was possible to be allergic to so many different things!” Reita stated, a look of sheer awe on his face as he paced the practice room. They were lounging around, discussing Reita’s date, while they waited for Uruha-who was running behind-to finally arrive.
“I had no idea Uruha would be such an awful matchmaker…” Aoi added to the conversation, strumming lazily on his guitar.
“I might have seen that one coming,” Kai said truthfully.
“I don’t know WHAT made Uruha think Manabu would be a good match for me. I honestly have NO IDEA what he was thinking could possibly come out of a date with this guy!”
“Manabu might have come out of it with a rash,” Ruki retorted, earning him a punch in the shoulder from Kai.
Just as Ruki raised his palm, ready to lay a smack on Kai, Uruha stumbled into the room breathlessly. “I’m sorry!” he apologized.
“URUHA, what were you thinking?!” Reita shrieked, marching his way over to the stunned guitarist. Ruki jumped up to follow Reita, wanting a good view of whatever was about to transpire. Reita stopped in front of Uruha, continuing, “I never want to see hand sanitizer or another anti-bacterial wipe in my life. I almost want to quit washing my hands just to spite you for setting me up with such a hypochondriac!”
“…But didn’t you think his glasses were cute?” he offered quietly, shying away from Reita while he was in his scary-mode.
“Yes his glasses were adorable. In fact, they were almost as cute as he was when he sneezed every 2 minutes! You are the worst-the worst-matchmaker EVER. I can’t believe-”
“MAYBE,” Uruha started quickly, trying to overpower Reita’s anger with logic, “Maybe it’ll be better if it’s someone you know!”
“Oh God… this could get very ugly, very quickly,” Aoi contributed, sighing.
Caught in a stupor, Reita stared at Uruha, his head tilted to the side slightly. “Did you have any ideas for good dates or are you just pulling stuff out of your ass to prolong your life?” Ruki asked Uruha-smacking Reita’s ass to bring him back to a state of semi-normalcy and causing him to jolt.
“No!” Uruha said, waving his hands frantically. “No, I have someone in mind!”
------------------------------
“I think I’m going to die, Ruki,” Reita groaned, collapsing onto his couch.
“Reita! You’re going to mess up your hair!” Ruki whined, smacking Reita’s thigh-urging him to sit properly.
“Maybe if my hair looks bad enough, my date will just leave,” Reita suggested hopefully, viciously running his hands through his hair to make a mess of it. Ruki let out a strangled cry, his face looking a mix of shocked and murderous. Before Ruki had a chance to chastise Reita for destroying his hard work, there was a knock at Reita’s door.
Grumbling, Reita clumsily stood up and trudged his way to the door-his facial expression the ultimate example of discontentment. He opened the door with anything but excitement, only to gasp. “KAI?!”
“Don’t look so horrified. You’ll hurt my feelings!” Kai grinned, laughing at his friend’s appearance and pushing his way into his apartment. “What the hell did Ruki do to your hair?”
“I didn’t do that! That’s all his fault!” Ruki yelled from the couch.
Finally having enough sense to shut the door, Reita made his way over to Kai-gaping at him. “You’re my date?”
“Yes. Well, not actually. I just wanted to talk to you.”-He paused-“I mean I’m not adverse to dating you, if you really want to go on a date with me. It’s not exactly on my things-to-do list, though. I thought I’d spare you another horrible date.”
Reita threw his arms around a startled Kai, hugging him tightly, “You have no idea how much I love you right now.”
Kai grinned, chuckling as he hugged his friend. “Now, what exactly is going on?”
Reita pulled away just enough to look Kai in the face, “What do you mean?”
Pulling himself out of Reita’s hold, Kai led Reita towards the couch and gently pushed him to sit. He then moved to the armchair, taking a seat for himself as he looked at his two friends sitting on the couch. “I’m not dumb. There has to be a reason you’re suffering these atrocious dates. If you really wanted to, you could just tell Uruha no. If anything, you’re stronger than him and you could beat him up.”
“I’d never beat him up,” Reita said quietly, biting his lip.
“Oh?” Kai asked as his eyebrow rose with interest.
“Oh for crying out loud, Reita’s got the hots for Uruha but he’s too chickenshit to do something about it.” Ruki interrupted, unhappy with the pace the conversation was going.
Kai’s mouth formed an ‘O.’ Smiling, he said, “I see how it is. So, you just let Uruha do what you thought would make him happy, even though it was making you miserable.” Kai offered in understanding. Reita nodded slowly, blushing. “Are you planning on doing anything about it?” Kai inquired. Still remaining silent, Reita shook his head.
“What’d I tell you? Too chickenshit.”
“Ruki, be nice!” Kai scolded. Turning towards Reita again, he prodded “Why not?”
“Why would he set me up with people if he wanted to be with me? Doesn’t that mean he doesn’t want me?” he asked, sadly.
“Reita, please. Does Uruha really come across as perceptive? That doesn’t mean he doesn’t want you. He’s probably never thought about it.” Kai explained.
“That’s okay!” Reita let a small smile cross his face. “I’d rather not be rejected, so…” he trailed off, biting his lip.
Ruki rolled his eyes. Kai scratched his shoulder, slipping into a state of contemplation. After five or so minutes of silence, he stood abruptly and headed for the door. “Thank you for the… date. I hope you’ll feel better, Reita,” he said sincerely before walking out of the apartment and shutting the door behind him-leaving behind a confused Reita.
------------------------------
Lying miserably on couches seemed to be Reita’s new favorite pastime. That’s exactly what he was doing as they took their break from practicing. He was sprawled on his stomach across the couch as Uruha approached him, smiling.
“So, how was it?” he asked, excitedly.
“You didn’t seriously try and set me up with Kai, did you?” Reita questioned, opening an eye to look at his friend.
Uruha frowned, defending himself, “I thought you two would be good for each other!”
“We fit better than your other choices, I’ll give you that much,” Reita sighed, sitting upright.
“Well maybe if you weren’t so picky!” Uruha scoffed, plopping himself on the couch-displeased with Reita’s unwillingness to cooperate.
“I’m not picky! You’re just not picking the right people!”
“Well what the fuck qualifies as the right person?!” he asked, throwing his hands up in frustration.
“Well…” he began slowly. “It can’t be someone who fawns all over me. ‘Oh, Reita you’re so hot!’ ‘Oh, Reita you’re so funny!’ ‘Oh, Reita fuck me now!’ None of that.”
“Gee, that’s terrible,” Uruha replied, sarcastically.
“They don’t actually think I’m funny!” Reita explained, irritated.
“So?! They think you’re hot and want you to fuck them!”
“What if I want more than that?!” he snapped, crossing his arms.
“Oh,” Uruha said, surprised at his friend’s revelation. “Okay, no one-night-stands. What else?”
Reita bit his lip, thinking of how to elaborate his answer. “I want someone who I can hold a conversation with. I don’t want to be bored when I spend time with them.” He glanced at Uruha, who nodded to encourage Reita to continue. “I want to have things in common with them, you know? It’s important that we care about the same things-like music.”
“Uh huh…”
“And I want them to be sweet. I like when people make me feel special, and I want them to be able to make me feel like I’m cared about. And”-he paused, trying to find other things he found important-“…and that’s it.”
Uruha clapped his hands together with determination and excitement. “Okay! This time I’ll surely find the perfect date for you! Just wait and see!”
“Mhm,” Reita replied, unenthusiastic.
------------------------------
“Ruki, why won’t you just come over?!” Reita whined over the phone.
“Quit being such a baby! I’m not your mother!”
“But I need support! There’s no telling what’ll be on the other side of my door!”
“How bad can it be? I mean you’ve already had a walking STD, a clone, Poindexter, and worst of all: Kai!” Ruki teased.
“Ruki, please? Please?”
“No! Toughen up! Go put on some torn up jeans, eyeliner, and flatiron your hair and you’ll be good to go.” Ruki hung up before Reita could reply. Pouting, he tossed his phone aside and headed into his bedroom.
Fishing through his dresser, he pulled out exactly the type of pants Ruki told him to. He picked out a decent tee shirt and jacket to finish off the ensemble. He threw on his clothes with little-to-no enthusiasm and put on his eyeliner, letting the flatiron heat up. He finished styling his hair and slipped into some boots, making his way into his living room. He sat in his armchair, nervously tapping his foot as he waited for the dreaded knock at his door.
Soon enough, a deafening knock broke the heavy silence. Reita sighed, flattening his shirt and combing some hair over his eye. He made his way to the door, just wanting to get this over with. He opened the door. “He-URUHA?!” He stared open-mouthed at his friend.
“Where are your manners?!” he scolded. “Aren’t you going to invite me inside?” Of course, Reita just continued to gape at his date for the night. Uruha laughed, gently pushing Reita aside so he could walk into the apartment. He shut the door behind him and took Reita’s hand in his, pulling him over towards the couch. Uruha sat down, tugging on Reita’s arm so he would follow suit.
Reita sat down next to Uruha, awestruck. “W-what are you doing here?” he stuttered.
“I’m your date, silly!” he said with a laugh.
“Y-yeah, but… why?” Reita questioned, glancing at Uruha.
“Well… I’m cute, I’m funny, we both love music, I’m cute, I’m funny, I’m cute…” he counted the reasons off on his fingers. He paused, dropping his hands into his lap, adding “Oh, and because you want me to be your date.”
Reita’s face went from being a dusty shade of pink to a bright red very quickly. “N-no I d-don’t know what you’re talking about.”
“Oh, really? Because a heartbroken Kai told me differently.”
“H-heartbroken?!”
“Oh, yes. Heartbroken.” Uruha paused for effect. “No, Reita,” he laughed. “He wasn’t heartbroken. Well, if he was, it was only because one of his best friends was so upset over the fact one of his other-more idiotic-best friends couldn’t see what was going on.”
Reita played with the hem of his shirt, simply mumbling, “Oh.”
“Reita, I only tried to find a date for you because I thought it would make you happier. You had been acting so sad and, to be blunt, rather pissy and I just wanted you to be happy.”
Reita nodded, not knowing what to say.
“Why didn’t you ask me out on a date, Rei?” Uruha asked softly, taking Reita’s hand in his and caressing his palm.
“I…”-he sighed-“I didn’t think I had a chance to begin with and then on top of that, you were busy trying to set me up with people.” He paused before adding softly, “And none of them were you.”
Uruha laughed, “Reita I didn’t ask you on a date because I had no idea you wanted to go on a date with me! If you had just asked me, it would have spared you so much unhappiness.”
Reita murmured something so softly Uruha couldn’t tell what he had said. “What was that?” he asked Reita.
He took a deep breathe before repeating himself, “Uruha, would you like to go out with me sometime?” Uruha leaned towards Reita, squinting at him as if he were contemplating the answer he was going to give. Reita watched his friend’s face for any sign of what he was thinking when he noticed Uruha kept leaning closer and closer until finally he had Reita lying down on the couch as he hovered over him. “W-what are you doing?” he stuttered nervously.
“Giving you an answer,” he replied quietly, closing the short distance between their lips. Reita moaned softly in surprise as he felt Uruha’s lips move against his slowly. Reita tangled his fingers in Uruha’s hair as Uruha gently nibbled on his lip, pulling away shortly after with a simple peck on the lips.
He stared at Uruha in a pleasant daze, mumbling “So… I guess that’s a no?”
Uruha laughed, ruffling Reita’s hair. “That’s definitely a no.”

A/N: This whole putting-out-stories-like-a-whore-puts-out-sex thing.... I dunno how long it'll last. But I'll just roll with it while it's there lmfao. Hopefully it's not annoying that I've been posting frequently :-\
