Aoi/Uruha - I Was Just Wondering - G - Oneshot

Nov 26, 2007 22:06

All those nights spent stargazing lying next to Uruha were torturous for Aoi, because Aoi could never hold Uruha. But tonight was different. Tonight Aoi was sprawled on his back in the grass, gazing up at the starry sky. And tonight, Uruha was lying in Aoi’s arms. He smiled to himself-the thought of finally being able to call Uruha his making him feel even happier than he had already been feeling. His thoughts were interrupted by Uruha’s voice.

“Do you remember the time I dropped our tabs out of your apartment window?” Uruha asked, giggling.

“Yeah!” Aoi said, breaking out in laughter. “You wanted me to get you a bowl of ice cream and threatened to throw them out the window…”

“And then you lunged at me and I was so shocked that I let go of the tabs and they flew out the window!” Uruha choked out amongst a mess of laughter as he nuzzled his face into Aoi’s neck.

Struggling to talk through his laughter, Aoi choppily said, “And… then we... we looked out the window-“

“AND THEY WERE ALL OVER THE WET CONCRETE!” Uruha finished the memory as he rolled into Aoi, pressing their bodies closer together as they were both overtaken by laughter. Finally settling down, Uruha shifted his positioning so his head was resting on Aoi’s chest with an arm draped across Aoi’s stomach. Sighing happily, Uruha said, “I always have so much fun with you, Aoi.”

Chuckling, Aoi responded with, “I’m glad. I wouldn’t want the enjoyment to be one-sided.”

Beginning to giggle again, Uruha asked, “Do you remember my last birthday?”

Aoi laughed, realizing immediately what Uruha was referring to. “You were so cutely angry when I blew out your candles!”

“It was my birthday! You had your turn already to blow out birthday candles that year!” he argued, lifting his head a little to glare at Aoi as he pinched his hip lightly.

“Oi! We relit them for you and everything!” he said, laughing at the pouty expression on Uruha’s face.

Nodding in agreement, Uruha rested his head on Aoi’s chest again and smiled as he exhaled deeply. A short silence hung in the air until Uruha quietly said, “I wonder what I’ll do on my next birthday…”

Aoi reached a hand up to stroke Uruha’s hair gently. “You can do whatever you want; it’s your birthday, after all.”

Peering up at Aoi, Uruha asked, “Will you be there?”

“Would you want me to be there?”

Uruha smiled, nodding against Aoi’s chest. “I don’t think my birthday would be happy unless you were there.” Aoi couldn’t help but grin widely after Uruha said that. He really wanted nothing more than to be by Uruha’s side. Whether on his birthday or on a regular Tuesday afternoon, all Aoi wanted was to be by Uruha’s side.

“Aoi?” Uruha asked softly.

“Yeah baby?”

“What happens if I get you a birthday present and you hate it?”

Aoi laughed. He had been waiting for Uruha’s endless number of questions to start spilling out. “Uru, I’ll love anything you give me.”

“But what if it’s something awful?”

“You could give me rotten cheese and I wouldn’t care. I’d love it because you gave it to me.”

“Really, Aoi? Rotten cheese?” Uruha asked skeptically.

Chuckling at Uruha, Aoi replied, “You think about things an unnatural amount, did you know?”

Hiding his face in Aoi’s shirt, Uruha mumbled, “I just like to make sure I’ve thought of everything. And of course I can’t think of everything, so instead I just spend all my time trying to think of everything.”

“Which basically means your mind never stops, does it?” Aoi said, chuckling lightly.

“I’m sorry. It’s probably annoying for you-me always asking these questions…” Uruha trailed off miserably.

“Quite the opposite. I love knowing what you think about,” Aoi responded as he took hold of one of Uruha’s hands, bringing it to his lips and kissing it gently.

Smiling, Uruha said, “It’s perfect.”

“What’s perfect?” Aoi asked in confusion.

“I read this fairy tale once. There was this princess, right?”

“Uh huh…” Aoi responded, urging Uruha to continue.

“And she was cursed with a thirst for knowledge. She was a know-it-all, but the other kids didn’t like it. So she didn’t have any friends, really. And then it was time for her to be married off, but no one wanted to be with her! All of the princes got tired of her being so unbearably smart.”

“This sounds horrible! That poor girl! Who gets cursed with smarts?”

“I’m not done, yet!” Uruha scolded, pinching Aoi’s not-there-at-all stomach fat.

“Sorry! Sorry!”

“Anyway, it turns out there’s this prince in another land who had been cursed and was only able to ask questions. They end up getting married and they lived happily ever after!”

“What the hell kind of fairy tale was this? I’ve never heard of this sort!”

Uruha sighed in frustration, clicking his tongue. “Don’t you see? They were perfect for each other! She had the answers to all of his questions!”

“So… that makes me the princess no one likes?” Aoi asked in bitter amusement.

“It’s not meant to be taken as a literal analogy for our relationship!” Uruha said as lifted his head to look at Aoi with a pout. “It’s just similar, because I’m always asking you questions and you always have the answers I need. It’s perfect.”

Smiling, Aoi moved his hand to the back of Uruha’s neck and pulled him closer. He kissed him gently and then pulled away-saying, “You’re right. It is perfect.”

Biting his lip as he grinned, Uruha blushed slightly and then returned to resting his head on Aoi’s chest-still smiling. The two were silent for a few minutes, just enjoying each other’s company until another of Uruha’s questions rolled out. “Aoi, what happens if I get snowed in somewhere and can’t make it to our date? Would you be angry?”

“Of course I wouldn’t be angry! I’d be worried about you!” he answered, shocked that Uruha would think he’d be mad about something like that.

“You know,” Uruha started-abruptly changing the topic, “one day I’ll receive the worst news of my life.”

“Aren’t you the optimist?” Aoi said, chuckling-not thrown off in the least by the sudden shift in Uruha’s thoughts.

“No, it’ll happen to everyone! Even if-unrealistically-someone only receives good news for their entire life, one of those pieces of news will be the worst of the best! So, one day I’ll receive the worst news of my life…”

“One day, yes…”

“And I was just wondering,” Uruha began.

“You were just wondering…?” Aoi pressed.

“…Where will you be?”

Without hesitation, Aoi answered, “Hugging you until the bad news goes away.”

“But what if the bad news doesn’t go away? Then what will you do?”

“I’ll keep hugging you until you want me to stop.”

“What if I don’t want you to let go?”

“Then we’ll have to work out some way to eat and play guitar while clinging to each other?” Aoi offered with a laugh.

“You’d really hold me that long?” Uruha asked quietly in disbelief.

“As long as it’s what you wanted, then of course I would,” Aoi said, wrapping his arms around Uruha more tightly.

“Aoi, do you ever wonder what you’ll be doing this time next week? Or even the week after? Or even next year?”

Laughing, Aoi answered, “I suspect I’ll be watching the stars with you.”

“But what happens if there aren’t any stars in the sky this time next year?” Uruha asked, his voice seeming a little sad.

“Then we’ll wait until the year after and watch the stars then,” he answered in confidence.

“But you have no idea what you might have planned!” Uruha exclaimed, lifting his head off of Aoi’s chest to look him in the eyes. “You could have a very important appointment!”

Laughing again, Aoi replied, “I have three things to say to that: One… who has appointments at this time of night? Two… what could ever be more important than you? And three… taking into consideration point number two, as soon as I get home I’m pulling out my planner and marking this night next year as busy. As soon as they make calendars for the year after, I’ll buy one of those and mark that night as busy too.”

Uruha gasped, sitting up and reaching into his pocket; he pulled out his cell. “I should set a reminder on my phone so I don’t forget!”

Eyes widening in disbelief and amusement, Aoi gently reached up and grasped Uruha’s wrists-causing his phone to fall to the grass as Aoi pulled him down to cuddle again. “Uru, I don’t really need to mark my calendar to remember.”

“But how else will you know that you’re supposed to be with me then?” Uruha asked, lifting his head to look at Aoi.

Grinning at Uruha, Aoi answered the easiest question Uruha had ever asked him: “Because I’ll always be with you, Uruha.”
