Break was almost over; Reita and Uruha had already returned to the practice room and were waiting for the others. Uruha picked up his brand spanking new guitar and carefully pulled the strap over his head. Reita did the same with his bass, albeit more slowly considering he was simultaneously watching Uruha’s every move.
Smiling to himself, Reita saw the look of utter awe on Uruha’s face as he slowly ran his fingers over his guitar with the lightest and most delicate of touches. “It’s so beautiful, Reita!” Uruha said breathily as he turned to look at Reita.
He nodded his agreement and then said, “Yes, but it’s not… I mean, you’re…”
“Yes…?” Uruha urged Reita to finish his sentence as he looked at him in curiosity.
…More beautiful than a stupid guitar. “Your shoelace is untied.” He finished, sighing quietly.
Uruha glanced down at his shoes and then returned his attention to Reita, looking at him in perplexity. “Reita, these shoes don’t have laces.”
“Made you look!” Reita said quickly before turning so his back was facing Uruha. He busied himself with his bass-plucking the strings aimlessly as he tried to ignore the blush he felt covering his cheeks. Reita had a problem. He fumbled over his words, unable to properly speak what he’s thinking. Other times whatever he was thinking would roll out of his mouth without consideration. However, this was only a problem when Uruha was around.
“You’re not getting sick, are you Reita?” Kai asked as he entered the practice room and noticed the flush on Reita’s cheeks.
“N-no… I mean, maybe. I could… I could be getting a cold,” He stuttered nervously, not wanting to admit the reason his face was truly red.
“Oh no! Reita, I’d hug you better but I don’t want to put my guitar down,” Uruha finished with a giggle.
“That’s okay. I’m pretty sure a hug from you would make it worse,” Reita said. Since he wasn’t facing Uruha, Reita didn’t notice the confusion appear on Uruha’s face-confusion that evolved into an expression of hurt.
“What’s that supposed to mean?” Uruha asked in a tone of voice showing he was clearly offended.
“What’s what supposed to mean?” Reita turned to look at Uruha-not aware he said anything wrong.
“Do I have cooties, Reita?!” Uruha asked, narrowing his eyes at Reita as he crossed his arms over his chest as best he could with the presence of his guitar on his body.
“What?!” he asked Uruha and then quickly turned to Kai and asked, “What the hell is he talking about?”
“Uh, you just told him a hug from him would make your cold worse…” Kai informed him, chuckling nervously.
“My cold?” Reita asked in confusion, but quickly understood what Kai was talking about. “My cold! Right, I have a cold.” He coughed for extra measure.
Eyebrow rising at Reita’s odd behavior, Kai said, “Yeah, your cold. And you just told Uruha his hug would make it worse.”
“Yes, I have a cold and I just told Uruha his hug would make it worse,” Reita said as he nodded in understanding. Suddenly he gasped and said, “No! No! That’s not what I meant! I meant…” …that a hug from you would make me blush even more! “…I don’t want you to get sick too!”
Hearing that, Uruha’s face softened immediately and he broke into a grin. Waving his hand dismissively, Uruha said “Don’t be silly! I’d hug you anyway.” Uruha’s smiles were contagious and Reita couldn’t help but smile too.

Reita opened his door later that week and was met immediately with a slightly irritated Uruha asking him, “Were you ever planning on giving it back?”
“Huh?!” Reita asked, moving aside as Uruha made his way into the apartment. Reita closed the door and turned to look at Uruha in confusion. “Give what back?”
“The game!” he answered, throwing his arms up in frustration. “You know, the one you borrowed and never gave back!” He sighed, moving to sit on the couch. Reita followed and sat down next to Uruha, who said, “You are the worst borrower in the world!”
“No I’m not!” Reita said in his defense.
“You really, really are!” Uruha said, nodding emphatically.
“I’m really, really not! I just didn’t want you to have the game.”
“WHAT?!” Uruha yelled, his eyebrows rising in shock. “You deliberately didn’t return it to me?!”
“Well… yes, but-“
“But WHAT? That’s called stealing, Reita!” he yelled again.
Reita’s eyes widened and he furiously began shaking his head as he stuttered, “N-no that’s… I-I didn’t steal it!”
“Well you weren’t planning on giving it back, were you?! That’s stealing!” Uruha explained angrily.
“N-no! No I just wanted to keep it here!” Reita tried desperately to explain himself. He had only wanted to use the video game as bait for luring Uruha to his apartment. Having it at his apartment meant that Uruha would come over to play it with Reita. And that’s all Reita wanted-to play the game with Uruha.
“I don’t understand how you can’t understand the similarities between what you did and stealing!” Uruha said, shaking his head in disbelief at his friend.
Reita slumped, looking at his lap as he sighed. He finally mumbled, “Uruha I just wanted to play it with you and this way you’d come over here. And we could play it together.”
Jolting in surprise as he felt a gentle punch to his shoulder, Reita looked up and saw Uruha standing in front of him and smiling. Uruha then turned and walked towards Reita’s entertainment cabinet and pulled out the game and two controllers. “Why didn’t you just say so?” Uruha asked as he untangled the cords.
His shoulders slumping even more, Reita sighed and, too quietly for Uruha to hear, he mumbled, “I tried…”
------------------------------
“FUCK!” Uruha yelled as his guitar playing ceased. The rest of the GazettE also stopped playing and turned towards Uruha to see what all the commotion was about.
“What happened?” Ruki asked, turning to see Uruha squeezing one hand with the other.
“My string snapped,” he said with a sigh.
“Are… I mean, do you… C-can I…” Reita stuttered as his face contorted with concern. He stepped towards Uruha, only to immediately have Aoi cross his path and rush to Uruha’s side.
“Let me see,” Aoi said, gently pulling Uruha’s hand into view and examining it.
“…Can I help? Can I get you a band-aid? Can I ever stop being such a stuttering idiot? Can I tell you how much I love you? No.” Reita finished lamely in his thoughts with a sigh as he sadly watched Aoi pull Uruha out of the practice room to take care of his wound.
------------------------------
“What do you say that the GazettE has a night out to celebrate not collapsing under the weight of our workload?” Kai asked as he put away his drumsticks.
“Ahh, can’t we do it some other night? I have a date,” Uruha said as he finished putting away his guitar.
“Oooooh!” Ruki cooed, smirking at Uruha. “Someone’s lucky to be dating such a fine specimen as you!” he teased.
Uruha’s eyes rolled while Reita’s grew in size. “Y-you have a date?” he asked quietly.
“Yeah!” Uruha faced Reita, clapping his hands excitedly. “We’ve been so busy, I haven’t really had a chance to go out with anyone, you know?” Nodding, Reita looked at his feet as he twirled a piece of his hair-pondering the situation and how much he wished it weren’t a reality.
Later that night, Uruha had come over to Reita’s to play some video games before it was time for his date. Reita had been hoping that perhaps the sight of the Playstation would be tempting enough to keep Uruha from his date. He had even higher, yet more farfetched, hopes that perhaps a round of racing would somehow make Uruha realize that he wanted to… marry Reita. Sighing as he put away the controllers, Reita turned towards the noise he heard coming from his room.
“So,” Uruha said as he emerged from Reita’s bedroom. He struck a pose as he asked, “How do I look?”
“Y-you… you can’t go out like that!” Reita exclaimed as he jumped to his feet, his eyes widening at Uruha’s appearance. He was wearing an open button-up shirt over a skin-tight tank top with black jeans that were just as tight and hung low on his waist-clinging to his hips and the curve of his ass.
“Why not? This isn’t much different from what I’d wear any other day…” he trailed off, looking down at his body and inspecting his outfit before returning his questioning gaze to Reita.
“B-because! Because…”
“Because why?! What’s wrong with my outfit?” Uruha asked, seeming a little annoyed.
…Because he won’t be able to take his hands off of you and I don’t want him to touch you! “Because that shirt doesn’t go with those pants! You have to change before you embarrass yourself! Go put on the stuff you were wearing before!”
Uruha’s eyebrows knitted together and he gaped at Reita. Finally getting a grip on the situation, he responded with “They totally match! I don’t even know why I bothered to ask you, Mister I-only-wear-tee-shirts-and-jeans-even-on-a-dressy-day!” He huffed and then turned to grab his coat and bag of clothes from the chair he threw them on. “I’m gonna have fun on my date. I hope you have fun reorganizing your sock drawer by color,” Uruha spat. Turning around as he gripped the doorknob, he added, “Oh wait, they’re all black.” And with that, he left Reita’s apartment and slammed the door.
As soon as the door slammed, Reita cursed as he kicked his couch. He grabbed one of his couch pillows and threw it against his wall as he yelled, “But black goes with everything!”
------------------------------
Practice had just ended and Uruha and Reita were the only two left in the room. Reita was putting his bass away when he felt a gentle tap on his shoulder. He turned around and saw Uruha wave at him-his face expressionless.
“Can I talk to you for a sec?” he asked. Reita simply nodded and stood up to equal Uruha’s height. “I’m sorry I slammed the door last night…” he said, shifting his gaze to see Reita’s reaction-which was a mere blink. Reita hadn’t meant to be silent; he just wasn’t sure what to say. “…Are you going to say anything?” Reita’s jaw simply flapped as he tried to find words to respond to Uruha’s apology. His mind just seemed to stop working. “What is the matter with you, Reita?! Did you forget how to talk? Lately all you’ve been doing is stuttering like an idiot!” Uruha shouted at him.
“I’M SORRY, OKAY?!” he yelled, pulling on his hair in frustration. Uruha was startled at Reita’s outburst and the clarity of his words. They had been spoken perfectly. He just started at Reita; it was Uruha’s turn to be at a loss for words.
Reita said more gently, “I’m sorry but… I’m just thinking of the right words to say. I know they don’t sound the way I planned them to be, but if you wait around a while I’ll make you fall for me!” Pointing his finger at Uruha with a determination in his eyes, he finished with, “I promise.” And with that, Reita turned and left the practice room and a completely stunned Uruha, only to pop his head around the door frame a few seconds later-asking, “Are you going to be home this evening?” Too flabbergasted to say anything, Uruha simply nodded at Reita.
------------------------------
Opening the door, Uruha’s head jerked backwards in surprise at the sight in front of him. Reita was dressed in a slick black suit, his hair still cutely messy despite is clean-cut appearance. He was also holding a bag over his shoulder as he nervously tugged at his necktie, which was hanging loosely around his neck.
“What the fuck? Is this Halloween? Or are you supposed to be Santa?” Uruha asked, looking from Reita’s dressy outfit to the bag he was holding and finally settling on his noseband-less face.
“I…well, I have some things for you. Can I please come inside?” he softly asked as he tried to flatten his unruly hair by combing his fingers through it. Finally he clicked his tongue as he realized it was futile; his hair just wasn’t going to cooperate. Uruha giggled at his friend before nodding and opening the door wider.
Walking inside and over towards the couch, Reita sat down and watched as Uruha closed the door and walked towards him. He sat down next to Reita and pointed at the bag sitting on Reita’s lap, asking, “Are those my presents, Santa?”
Blushing, Reita nodded as he opened the bag and pulled out a package of guitar strings and handed them to Uruha-who accepted the gift-and then explained, “The other day when your guitar string broke, I… I really wanted to… to…” he sighed.
“It’s okay, Reita. You really wanted to what?”
Running his fingers through his hair again, Reita quickly mumbled, “I really wanted to be the one who made sure you were okay, but Aoi beat me to it.” He exhaled deeply before adding, “So… those are new guitar strings… in case you needed some.”
Uruha smiled as he placed the guitar strings on the cushion beside him, but before he had a chance to say anything Reita hurried to pull out his next item. He handed him a new video game, “I… I remember you saying that-“
Yanking the game out of Reita’s hold, Uruha gasped and squealed excitedly, “I REALLY WANTED THIS!”
Reita blushed as he grinned, happy to make Uruha happy. “I… thought… maybe we could… um, we could…”
“I wouldn’t want to play it with anyone else, Reita,” Uruha finished Reita’s thought for him, smiling and setting the game on the couch next to him. Reita smiled even wider and then he reached into his bag and pulled out his final gift. He stared at his lap as he stretched out his arm-handing the gift to Uruha, but not brave enough to see his reaction. Uruha couldn’t help but giggle as he took the heart-shaped box of chocolates from Reita, causing Reita to lift his head a little to look at him. “Reita I never knew you were so… so…”
“Irresistible? Sexually attractive? Perfect for you?” Reita suggested, hoping one of those might be able to finish Uruha’s sentence.
“So CUTE!” Uruha finished as he set the chocolates on the floor and then reached over, throwing his arms around Reita’s neck in a hug.
“Well… it’s not as good as ‘hot as fuck’ but I guess I’ll take ‘cute,’” Reita mumbled as he smiled sheepishly. “I have one more thing,” he said.
Uruha pulled away from Reita a little to look at him curiously, “What is it?”
Pulling himself out of Uruha’s hold, Reita leaned down and lifted the legs of his pants so his green socks were visible. “They’re not black.”
Not able to hold in his laugher, Uruha shouted, “But they don’t match your tie!”
Dropping his pants legs immediately and jerking his head upwards to look at Uruha, Reita defended himself with, “But they’re not black!”
Stifling the remainder of his laughter, Uruha said, “Yes, I saw.” Pausing for a few seconds and all the while smiling at Reita, Uruha finally said, “So is this why you were so tongue-tied?”
“Because of my socks?” Reita questioned, confused at the way Uruha connected the two.
“No!” he laughed. “Because you… you… B-because…”
“I’m head-over-heels in love with you?” Reita offered, smirking at the way the tables had turned and he now had Uruha fighting for words.
“Yeah, that,” Uruha mumbled as he blushed.
Reita grinned, saying, “It seems so easy to say it now.” He watched as Uruha smiled and rubbed the back of his neck nervously. After a brief silence, Reita said, “Look, Uru… I know you… you might not love me that way yet, but can you at least give me a chance? I’ll do whatever it takes to prove to you that I’ll be… I’ll be…”
“You’ll be the man of my dreams?” Uruha offered, turning to look at Reita with a smirk on his face.
“Yeah… that,” Reita laughed.
“Well…” Uruha said as he tapped his chin with his finger, appearing to contemplate the prospect of Reita as a boyfriend. “You do clean up nicely,” Uruha said as he leaned in and kissed Reita on the cheek-causing him to blush furiously. “But our first date is shopping. We have to fix your wardrobe malfunctions, alright?”
Reita's eyes widened and then narrowed as he glared at Uruha. Then he yelled, "Black goes with everything!"
