Reita had barely even arrived at the school’s entrance before he was yanked aside. He could hear Ruki calling out his name in the distance-undoubtedly confused by his sudden disappearance. Feeling his back being slammed against the outdoor wall of the school building, Reita grunted from the impact and then turned to see who had a hold of his shirtfront. He couldn’t help but to gasp as he saw none other than Aoi. A much younger Aoi, but still Aoi.
Reita looked at Aoi as best he could, taking into consideration his current positioning of being pinned to a wall. Aoi wasn’t wearing the jacket of his uniform and he had his shirtsleeves rolled up-revealing muscles, which flexed as they held Reita against the wall. The first few buttons of his shirt were undone and his tie was hanging loosely around his neck. His hair was his normal color of dark brown, but not quite as long as he’d been wearing it lately. It was still long enough to be pulled back into a ponytail-which it was. In all honesty, he didn’t look much different. Quickly running through their ages in his mind, Reita figured he must be eighteen. It made sense since Kai and Ruki had told him that Aoi was a senior.
“I don’t know what the fuck you think you’re doing, but you leave Kouyou alone!” he hissed, pushing Reita harder against the wall as he spoke.
“What are you talking about?!” Reita asked as his eyebrows rose in shock and bewilderment.
“He gets teased enough as it is. He doesn’t need you making shit worse!” Aoi said with a glare, leaning in so his face was merely an inch from Reita’s.
“What?! I’m not teasing him!” Reita said desperately.
“Whatever the fuck you did, he won’t stop talking about you!” Aoi spat, shoving Reita against the wall again.
Reita grinned goofily as he asked, “Really?! What’s he been saying?”
Aoi grit his teeth as he answered with, “That I’ll chop your fucking dick off if you lay a hand on him.”
Reita stared at Aoi with a slack jaw before he said, “…He did not say that!”
“It doesn’t matter what he said! Watch your step, Suzuki!” Aoi said. Lowering his voice, he venomously growled, “I wasn’t kidding,” and then let go of Reita’s shirt. Reita stared at Aoi’s retreating back as he thought of how not cool at all it was that one of his best friends had just thrown him against a wall and threatened his manhood.
Making his way to the gymnasium-having learned yesterday that this was where he usually met Kai before class-he spotted Kai sitting on one of the bleachers. Kai saw him walking into the gym and stood up and walked over to meet him. When he was close enough to talk to, Reita asked, “Have you met Shiroyama before?”
As they started walking towards their first period, Kai answered, “No, but I know of him.”
“Tell me what you know about him please, would you?” Reita requested.
“Um,” Kai started, scratching behind his ear thoughtfully. “He skips school a lot. He’s been known for getting into fights, too.” Reita couldn’t hold back a chuckle as he heard that. Leave it to Aoi not to control his temper. Not to mention, he had just had an encounter with said-temper. “He’s the only person who talks to Takashima, really.”
“Does he get teased a lot?” Reita suddenly asked.
“Who, Shiroyama?” Kai asked with a laugh. “Are you joking? Only if someone’s looking for a smack down!”
“No, not him!” Reita said exasperatedly with a click of his tongue. “I meant Takashima! Does Takashima get teased a lot?”
“Oh!” Kai laughed again-the question making more sense now. “Uh,” he said, rubbing his arm as he contorted his face with thought. “He gets teased for being so quiet sometimes, I guess. You should know!” Kai said, stopping to turn and face Reita as they reached the entrance to their classroom.
“What do you mean by that?” Reita questioned.
Kai furrowed his brow in confusion as he explained, “You stick up for him a lot, Reita.”
“I do?!”
“Yeah,” Kai said with a shrug. “I mean we don’t talk to him or anything, but you’ve told some people off for mocking him more than just a few times. Why does it seem like you’ve forgotten everything about your day-to-day life? Did you hit your head and forget to tell someone about it, Reita?!” Kai asked with concern.
Ignoring Kai’s worries, Reita circled back to Kai’s comment about his defending of Uruha. “Has anyone told this to Shiroyama?!” Reita asked as his eyes widened in slight anger.
“No, why would we?” Kai asked, chuckling at the absurdity of the question.
“Because he just pinned me to a wall and threatened to chop off Little Reita if I laid a hand on Takashima!”
Kai held his side as he laughed. “Are you serious?! Ruki told me you had disappeared as soon as you got to school, but we figured you were off stalking Takashima.”
“What the hell is that supposed to mean?!” Reita demanded, but it fell on deaf ears because Kai had already started walking into the classroom. Reita noticed he sat in the seat near Uruha’s desk. Walking into the room, he stopped halfway between the entrance and the back of the room.
Kai looked at Reita as he patted the desk next to him-the one with Uruha sitting at a desk on the other side and gazing out the window-and gave a look that was clearly saying, “I saved you this seat by your new obsession, Reita!”
Clicking his tongue, Reita sighed and walked towards the desk between Kai and Uruha. As he sat down, the noise caught Uruha’s attention. Reita smiled at Uruha as he looked at him and gave a small wave. Uruha waved back and nodded in acknowledgement as he smiled shyly.
Reita gave a startled “Ah!” as he saw Lorenzo hovering outside their classroom window. Uruha looked at Reita curiously and Kai asked if he was all right. “Sorry, I just saw a weird bird fly by,” Reita answered, looking pointedly at Lorenzo as he said this. What the hell was he doing outside his classroom window, scaring the crap out of him like that… around other people, no less!
Lorenzo pointed at Uruha as he said, “Ask to eat lunch with him, stupid!”
Reita gave a nod that was small enough to go unnoticed by anyone who wasn’t Lorenzo. Satisfied, Lorenzo snapped his fingers and disappeared. As he leaned closer to Uruha, Reita asked, “Eh, is it alright if I eat lunch with you again? I won’t leave my food with the garbage disposals I call friends this time.”
His eyes widening in delighted surprised, Uruha grinned and softly said, “S-sure!”
“Hey!” Kai butted in, offended that Reita was ditching him and Ruki. “What about-“ Reita whipped his head around and gave Kai a glare and a cutting-throat gesture to signal he should probably shut up unless he wanted to die. “-that test last week? Boy was that one a toughie!” Kai covered, wiping his forehead as if the memory of the test had been distressing in itself. Reita nodded his approval of Kai’s chosen sentence ending and then turned back towards Uruha. His eyes were darting back and forth between his desktop and Reita.
Reita laughed softly, asking, “Why are you so on edge? I won’t bite!” He couldn’t deny that Uruha was adorable when he was so flustered around him, but Reita didn’t want to make him uncomfortable! He wanted to woo him, as Lorenzo had worded it.
“I-I’m just not used to people talking to me like this, Reita-san,” he answered as he blushed with embarrassment and peered at Reita from under his bangs.
“Reita! Just Reita. And I guess we’ll have to do a lot of practicing then!” Reita said with a wink, only serving to deepen Uruha’s blush and earn a gagging sound from Kai.
