Reproductive rights have been a HUGE issue throughout this election. And women seem to have won the right to decide what to do with their bodies. And rightfully so. If someone doesn't want to grow another person inside them, they shouldn't be forced to do so ( Read more... )

This. This this this. Thank you for putting my thoughts into words. What we really need is a mentality shift, first and foremost. I know my hometown added a foundling hatch to its women's shelter about ten years ago, which gives the woman the option of leaving contact information or remaining completely anonymous - she doesn't even have to show her face. It started a shitstorm because "it encourages women to abandon their children" etc etc. I don't think people realize how desperate you have to be before you even contemplate this. Not to mention the fact that it's better than the alternative of leaving the baby elsewhere, where it may not be found, or worse.

(In the last ten years or so, four or five babies have been left in the hatch. I don't think anyone is bitching anymore at this point, and I like to think it's because people are beginning to realize how hard being a woman can be. I hope so, anyway.)
