Who: Red XIII and Aeris (fayth)
Where: Bevelle Cove Fayth Shrine
Summary: Nanaki petitions for his first Aeon.
Nanaki had left Vincent some time again to finish making their camp. He wanted to get away for awhile, not finding the Aeon was beginning to get to him; he was getting sad. Perhaps the Fayth is doing this on purpose... maybe she doesn't want a Ronso summoner calling her... These thoughts only made Nanaki's state worsen. He huffed once and then went to sit on a fallen tree branch. The moss beneath him was soft and fuzzy, a comforting feeling to the depressed red Ronso. He tried to cheer up; it was, after all, probably all just in his head. Nothing more.
Nanaki would begin to get a certain feeling. A tug on the inside of his mind told him to stop feeling so down and get up and look. He wasn't too far away. A picture suddenly popped up in his mind. One of the many waterfalls in Bevelle poured water as it should have, but after a second, the waters lifted away like a curtain and showed on the inside a deep cave. The vision-ette would leave him feeling invigorated.
Nanaki's head lifted from its bowed position and looked around. His head tilted to the side for a moment in thought, then he got up and started walking in a direction he thought slightly familiar. Sure enough, in the distance his keen ears could hear the sound of falling water. He picked up the pace and was soon within sight of the awesome sight - beautiful waterfalls.
Nanaki paused to admire them once more; him and Vincent had passed by here once before but paid no attention other than to gaze lovingly upon the peaceful scene. Now Nanaki knew there was something more than just nature's beauty lurking within the natural painting. He walked forward, confident now of his steps. He passed underneath the waterfall and paused just beyond to shake his fur off. Peering inside, he slowly made his way in further.
A white glowing elf-like creature peered from behind a rock. The blue and pink ribbons that were wrapped around her lithe little body flowed in the air as if blown by the wind. She giggled and ran off deeper into the cave. With her white staff in one hand, her other hand extended and motioned for Nanaki to follow her.
Nanaki blinked and his ears swiveled around at the sound of her laughter. It was beautiful. He nodded, more to himself than the disappearing elfin-maid, and carefully followed after her.
He paused to blink and stare a bit at the water, but if the Fayth wished him to follow, he would do nothing else. Easing up towards the puddle, Nanaki carefully leaned forward and peered into its depths. A glare kept him from looking in, but he got the impression of deep waters nevertheless. Maybe it was just his imagination, or maybe it was that the elf had disappeared down into its reaches. Shaking his head slightly, Nanaki took a deep breath, whether to calm him or to hold was anyone's guess, and then stepped right in.
Nanaki almost panicked at the sight and sound of the changed elf, but quick reasoning kept him from opening his mouth in reaction. He tried to remain calm as he steadily swam upwards, but the lack of visual confirmation of his efforts began to scare him. He glanced around, seemingly looking for a way out or for the elf-maiden, but to no avail. Finally, after almost giving in to another panic attack, the red Ronso closed his eyes and silently prayed, calmly treading water as if he were easily floating on top.
She finally stopped swimming around her prey and charged at Nanaki head on, bringing her staff far above her head and beginning to swing it at the Ronso. With a smile on her face she called out a single melodic cry. As the staff moved from above her head to come down on Nanaki, the top notch began to sparkle and shine and left a trail of white light.
Nanaki's eyes fluttered a bit, just enough to see the oncoming staff. But he kept his eyes firmly shut after that. Instead of reacting out of fear, Nanaki simply raised his arms as if to block the blow. He couldn't think of anything but the prayer repeating over and over in his head now. It calmed his spirit, if not his mind and body.
The staff stopped inches from Nanaki's head, blocked by a field of green energy, that spouted from the top of the staff itself. This energy was quickly followed by a field of reddish energy, and this was followed by a shield of blue energy. The red ronso would feel completely refreshed and his health would even continually feel better. The elf swam back a bit and giggled again.
Nanaki forgot where he was for a moment and sighed in relief, opening his eyes to gaze at the lovely elf before him. Despite the less air quantity, the Ronso's expression remained that of contentment, similar to cat's lidded gaze and purring smile as it was properly petted. He blinked out of his stupor and reached out for the elf without thinking.
When he was reaching out, the elf twisted around in a whirlpool of ribbons and... water. After a few seconds the maelstrom dissipated and left a human looking woman of about medium height dressed in a pink dress with a red half coat. Her long brown hair was tied back and braided to almost completely down her back. She smiled and touched Nanaki's hand.
"Summoner Nanaki... You've passed your test and I can tell you are a good person."
Nanaki gasped, amazed at the vision before him. And yet it didn't, for this was a Fayth and she should not be surprised that she was capable of such.
When everything settled back down and he gazed on the pretty woman, he tried smiling. With a gruff voice half caused from all the excitement, half from being a Ronso, Nanaki responded. "Thank you... Aeris."
Aeris reached over and grabbed onto Nanaki's cheeks. After looking into his eyes she leaned over and kissed him on the nose. Nanaki's eyes would begin to grow heavy and his body begin to slump. While he was nodding off, she whispered into his ear.
"I will help you in any way I can, Summoner Nanaki. Call anytime you need help, in or out of battle." Nanaki would wake up outside of the waterfall, staring into the beauty and depth of the falling water.
He stood for a long time in awe and reference for the act of gaining his first Aeon. It seemed so... unusual. But it was a good unusual. Very good.
He smiled contentedly to himself, then nodded at the wonderful waterfall with its hidden cave. With a spin of his heel, Nanaki turned and walked calmly back towards where he left Vincent, already planning out his tale to tell to the silent guardian.
