What: A possibly interrupted patrol
The wind had died down some since he'd started out on patrol tonight - only a small breeze that shifted the cape around him, rather than the whipping force that had made it difficult to even aim a jump line.
The Dark Knight stood on the edge of a tall, gothic-styled building, looking out toward the spire that rose up from the center of the city. It seemed that the closer he got to it, the further away it got; a mirage that only moved just beyond actual reach - not quite tangible, but ever driving its pursuer forward.
Just a little further, just a little more.
Batman couldn't deny the pull of it - the strong curiosity that drew him further and further away from his base in the warehouse district. He also couldn't ignore the screaming warnings of his instinct.
Torn, he stared out, adjusting the binocular-lenses that he'd activated just a moment ago. He took in every detail of the intricate architecture that he could see from here. A figure seemed to just appear in front of it for a moment - he hadn't seen a door actually open.
He was so focused on his observation that he almost jumped at the sound of movement below him. He just barely heard it above the sound of the wind, but it was enough to shake his concentration. The fact that he could be so lost in such a simple act bothered him slightly. Switching off the binoculars, he switched to only the night-vision feature on the cowl's lenses. He knew he'd lost his chance to observe the cloaked figure that had come from inside the Church, but the noise below was much closer. And unfortunately, with proximity came priority.
