Title: Easy
What: original poetry
Rating: PG
Words: 139
Summary: The physics of human emotions. Or something. Apparently written February 2008; forgotten about until now, when I added a line.
Sample:
Amusement, like affection, travels at a constant speed.
You’re easy, he says, just teasing, so
my offence is only deadpan, but he
apologizes anyway: with
arms around me and
head close to mine,
he narrates his own
showers of affection
and I realize that
I’ve forgotten how to
give it. These days I keep in
communication, yes, but I keep in
isolation, too; the opposite reaction
on an equal scale. It was not so
lonely before he came.
He has a thing for you,
she says, matter-of-fact, so
my response (we’re both
so gay we swing right
past each other) is
the same, but she
only laughs. It’s funny (or
is it sad?) because it’s true, yet
amusement seems to come
easier to her. It must have to
penetrate the vacuum that
surrounds me. Amusement, like
affection, travels at a constant speed.
This physics thing is easy.
