The brood was, in a word, exhausting. There'd been oh so much activity going on and the kids were only now getting exhausted enough to be quiet. Sean and Annja had finally managed to herd the kids back to the hotel -- with a brief stop at the origami towels -- and now everybody was sprawled out in various places in the room

"Oh my God, this gets more and more exhausting every year," Sean said from where he was sprawled on the couch. "I thought last year was bad with just Psyche and Gracie."

"This year you have four," Annja said with a smile as she watched Psyche showing Stana a couple of magic spells and making the shyer of their daughters smile. "How did your day with Shawna go?"

"It... it went pretty well," Sean said, hesitating for just a second but knowing that Annja would pick it up anyway.

Annja frowned and lifted her head to look into his face at the hesitation. "What happened," she asked softly.
