"Because I'm hoping that if she gets a chance to meet you, she'll change her mind."

Eternal optimist, that one.

"Plus if someone wants to kill her, it'll be easier this way."

Tempered with Nast cunning.

"Exactly," Savannah said with a grin as she leaned back against the couch. "Easier to dispose of a body if we're not in public."

She paused.

"Built in alibi, too."

Look, at least it was just her and not Johnny, too, okay?

Garin let out a laugh at that. "Oh, I like you, girl," he declared.

Belinda wasn't sure what Sean expected to come of this meeting, but she wasn't about to back down from the challenge that this Annja person presented. Sean had married some school girl he had met in this damn place, and it was up to her to convince them to see sense.

Look, she didn't like having competition, okay?

Sighing, she knocked on the door.

"I got it," Garin said, already thinking of something. Well, more like something Savannah had teasingly suggested. Close enough.

He got to his feet and went to answer the door. "Oh, my, Sean didn't tell me he had a beautiful older sister."

Belinda looked him up and down and gave him her best smile. "Then we are both surprised, because Sean didn't tell me that Annja had such a handsome older brother."

"Don't you dare," someone hissed from inside the house.

"I'm Belinda Nast, Sean's mother."

Garin was more than happy to shamelessly hit on Belinda in the name of distracting her.

He'd have been hitting on her anyway.

"Come on in," he said, stepping back. "Garin Braden. I'm not Annja's brother, just a friend of hers."
