So during a thanksgiving parade, during which verterans for our country are being honored by being allowed to walk in the parade, a protestor of the war decides he has had enough so he walks into the street and spits on our veterans, one of who beats the hell out of him in return. The right to free speech certainly doesn't include the right to spit on people. I wish people would realize that the soldiers are not the ones at fault here; whether they agree with the war or not, they are simply following orders. Many of my friends are in, or have been in, Iraq and only a small portion of them are in favor of what Bush is doing.

It's horrible that someone would treat a veteran in such a disrespectful way.

Holy mother of god, people can be so stupid! That guy deserved to get beaten up.

As for free speech, I think that there should be no boundaries or limitations to what people say and/or do. But if you do something like spit on a veteran or blow up an abortion clinic or kick a puppy or whatever, then you shouldn't expect the government to come rushing in to save you. You should face the consequences. You spit on a veteran, you get the shit kicked out of you and maybe get sued and you shouldn't complain - you should take responsibility for your actions.

I think that the government should protect a person's right to free speech as long as he or she doesn't physically hurt another person. Burning flags and making signs and writing critically of the government doesn't hurt anyone. It may offend some people, sure. But sticks and stones and all that jazz.
