character info.
character name: Roxas
canon & medium: Kingdom Hearts: 358/2 Days [video game for the Nintendo DS]
age & species: Physical age: 14 or 15 years old, though he may appear a few years younger to some eyes
True age: 143 days old
Species: Special case human-formed Nobody. In the Kingdom Hearts universe, people are made of three parts: body (speaks for itself), heart (responsible for emotions), and soul (life force). If someone loses their heart, one way or another, then it is possible for a being called a Nobody to be created. This only occurs if the person's heart was strong. The body and soul live on, often warped into a caricature of a human form, perhaps more monstrous than anything else. However, if the person had an especially strong heart, then the body left behind does not change, instead retaining its human shape with little to no alteration. Nobodies, since they do not have hearts with which to feel, are not capable of having emotions, although they remember their past lives and therefore remember what it was like to feel. They can thusly mimic emotion, well enough to trick normal people into thinking they are just, well, normal people like them. However, Roxas is an exception to these rules for reasons to be covered in his history. The situation surrounding his "birth" has resulted in him having no memories of his past life, and yet he seems to be more emotional than any other Nobody to date, save perhaps Naminé, who is also said to be a unique case, even though, in theory, he should appear to be truly emotionless.
appearance:
Roxas and his Organization coat. It's probably worth noting that Roxas is short, even for a teenage boy.
For example, he barely comes up to Axel and Saïx's shoulders, and they're estimated to stand at about six feet even in height.

Does Roxas have a heart? The only adjustment I have to make is that I am not going to say for sure whether or not Roxas has a heart, unlike the owner of the fan shrine. I'm going to do my best to keep it ambiguous about that in order to allow room for adjustments as the canon updates itself since Nomura doesn't seem to be letting Kingdom Hearts go any time soon.
personality:
Roxas first gives off the impression of being too serious for a kid his age. Though he sees the world in simple terms (for Roxas, it's either this or that, with little to no middle ground), he still questions everything around him, from the motives of those around him to what something is. It's not so much that he's curious and excited to learn about the world around him; he just doesn't know because he hasn't been alive for very long. When he asks a question, he expects the truth: honesty is of the utmost importance to Roxas. He doesn't understand why someone would lie, and as such, he always tells it how he sees it, making him straightforward and, at times, blunt and even tactless. He also expects people to answer him outright; sarcasm and metaphors tend to go over his head, though he's getting better at identifying them, and he thusly tends to take them literally. He's not really a detail-oriented person, for though he may see the outline of the big picture, he has a tendency to miss subtle signs. That's not to say that he isn't good at making connections, though, it just takes him a while.
Roxas is an intensely internally-driven person. He can be said that he's introspective, but it's less that he examines his own thoughts and more that he just does a lot of thinking. He takes the things that he has learned and turns them over in his mind, reaching either questions that he cannot answer himself or answers that can be difficult to correct. He is independent in that he will come to his own conclusions and never take something someone tells him for granted; it isn't necessarily that he's a skeptic, just that he cannot stop from asking questions. Once he's made up his mind, there's no changing it, and he is not only stubborn, but action-driven. He will accomplish what he's set his mind to, come hell or high water. He is confident in his abilities, and this has led to arrogance during battle. Combine these things and you have a kid who is serious and persistent, never stopping until he is satisfied with the result.
The fundamental thing to remember when interacting with Roxas is to treat him the way you expect him to treat you. If you belittle him and his friends, he will rise up and fight back. He returns friendship with devotion and loyalty, and kindness with kindness, even going as far as to go out of his way to help someone he doesn't know very well just because they helped him out a few times. He expects the same as well, for his friends to treat him like friends and for his enemies to treat him as an enemy. When people act outside of these simple boundaries, he becomes confused and even upset, depending on the circumstances.
He doesn't care what people think of him, whether they like or dislike him, but what he reacts strongly to is the way he is treated. He hates being underestimated and looked down upon. He's more than just some kid and he's not weak or stupid. It's not his fault he doesn't know something. He can quickly become defensive in situations where someone is being condescending to him. When he gets upset, he gets vocal, and whatever brain-mouth filter he has disappears, regardless of the consequences.
He has something of an inferiority complex; the suggestion that he (or any of his friends) is useless or less than anyone else will set him off, and he will not lie down and take it. He is a very firm believer in his own worth. He believes he has a right to exist, a right to know the truth, a right to be himself, a right to live -- he doesn't care what anyone else says or thinks. He may be a Nobody, but he knows what he goes through -- what he feels -- is real, and this has led to a lot of confusion about what's so great about a heart, anyway, and why they need them in the first place. If he ever loses this credo, he'll lose the foundation of who he is. Without it, he would be completely lost and melancholy with nothing else to believe in. He knows what he's capable of, but when it comes to who he is, he's not so sure. Like a lot of teenagers, he's still trying to figure out who he is, and in the end, he needs validation of those around him... especially from his friends.
His friends are the key to his happiness. In their company, he relaxes and becomes more lighthearted. He starts acting like a regular kid again, teasing and joking around and laughing with them about nothing. If he could, he would be with them forever, and if anything, that's all he really wants: to be with his friends, everyone happy... a normal life, one outside of fighting for something he doesn't know anything about and for people he, in reality, barely even knows. He's more likely to be something of a homebody, to look after the people he knows and cares about, than to go gallivanting around the universe for fun. In the end, his friends are also his ultimate weakness and downfall: they bring out the strongest 'emotions' in him because they're so close to the core of who he is. They are under his skin and in his blood, so when something goes wrong, to say it affects him deeply would be an understatement. Anyone he considers a friend can just rip him apart from the inside out. They are his true source of validation and safety; his friends are his home.
In the end, Roxas is serious, action-oriented, stubborn, loyal, and ever-questioning.
abilities: ① Keybearer: Roxas wields a weapon called a Keyblade, which is... what it sounds like. A giant key shaped like a sword. It has the ability to lock and unlock anything. For his stay in Loophole, he will on default be using the Keyblade in its
natural state, which is called the Kingdom Key.
② Keychains: Roxas will be able to change his Keyblade by way of accessories called Keychains. These not only change the shape and color of his weapon, but also the abilities of it. There are some Keychains, for example, that will transform his Keyblade into one more suited for powerful physical attacks, and others that will boost the strength of his spells. See the possessions section for more information.
③ Magic: Roxas knows low to mid attack spells from his universe (Fire, Fira, Blizzard, Blizzara, Aero, Aerora, Thunder, Thundara).
④ Limit Break: When Roxas's health is dangerously low, he taps into a store of power that allows him to unleash an attack called his Limit Break. His is named Event Horizon. When he uses this ability, his Keyblade becomes one long bar of light, and he "
rapidly darts around the field ... slashing away at enemies with great strength." However, Roxas can only use this skill once per day because of the amount of energy it depletes.
⑤ Powered Down: Since all abilities are brought down to "level one" in Loophole, Roxas's "stats" will not have any boosts that come from levels, so although he'll know his mid-level spells, they won't pack the same punch they did "back home."
any plans for your character here?
Roxas will be taken out of his comfort zone and thrust into a situation where the rules he has been taught all his short life no longer apply. This will doubtlessly lead to him asking more questions, not only about his surroundings but about the people he encounters and, eventually, himself. I'd like to explore what his thoughts and conclusions would be in this younger mindset. He's still innocent, not angry or distrustful or sadly accepting of his fate or at peace with what has happened to him. These things have yet to happen to him, so there is potential for him to grow in directions that he did not have the opportunity to in canon.
possessions:
In the gameplay technicalities of 358/2 Days, the player may only change the abilities, items, and types of weapons Roxas will be using on the mission field while he is at the Castle That Never Was. Since he is being taken from a time in canon where he will be in the Castle, Roxas will have with him his stash of healing items and the different Keychains that will allow him to alter his Keyblade's form.① Items: An assortment of the following: Potions and Hi-Potions (recover health), Ethers and Hi-Ethers (recover magic), Elixirs (recovers both), and Panaceas (recovers status effects). He has a higher amount of the lower-end healing items (Potions, Ethers), a moderate amount of mid-range healing items (Hi-Potions, Hi-Ethers, Panacea), and the least amount of the high-end healing items (Elixirs).
② Keychains: The following "Gear" (Keychains):
Duel (faster attack combos),
Chrono (magic boost),
Nimble (midair combos),
Wild (defense boost),
Prestige (strength boost).
He will carry all these items in a backpack of sorts, and there'll be just enough room for him to maybe squeeze in a couple more things, should he pick anything up.

sample journal entry:
[Look who hasn't hardly any sleep because of the caravan shaking while it was being forded! Roxas was unfortunate enough to have been thrown out of his bed -- and trust him, a fall from the top bunk is not fun. As such, he is very much a grumpy bear.]
What was that?! Whose idea was it to try and do that while everyone was sleeping?! Ugh... [He rubs his head, wincing a little.]
Hey, Xion, are you okay? I'm fine. My head just hurts. [Because. Ow.] I fell out of my bed...
Do you think Potions help with headaches? I hope so. [He's opening one right now.] I swear, if this doesn't work...
[Roxas's eyes shift back to his Junogram when the Potion is half-gone.] What should I do if my headache doesn't go away? [He's meaning to just ask Xion, but, well. It'd be okay if other people answer, he guesses. Just so long as they've got something helpful to say.]
third-person sample:
When Roxas wakes up, he isn't in his room.
He blinks confusedly up at the brilliant blue sky, raising a hand to shield his eyes from the bright sun. What the... He slowly sits up, brow furrowing into a frown. How did he get outside? Where is he? Maybe someone brought him here while he was sleeping. But who would do that? Why?
...
Maybe Axel decided to play a prank on him or something when he was sleeping. But would Axel really take him to another world and just... leave him there? Roxas rubs the sleep out of his eyes, and a part of him thinks that when he's done, he'll be back in his room and this would have been the end of a very vivid dream. But he's not. He's still sitting in the green grass on some world he doesn't even recognize.
Roxas gets to his feet and glances around. Yeah... There's definitely nothing he recognizes. Just a bunch of trees, and some ways off, what looks like a village. He takes another look around and sighs. "Well..." he mutters to himself. "Now what?"
There doesn't seem to be anyone around. If someone really is pulling his leg, they would've come out to laugh at him by now, wouldn't they? So there's gotta be some other explanation. "Maybe I'll find some answers in the village." It's better than just standing around in the middle of nowhere.
Roxas takes a moment to check himself, though. He just crashed after he got back from his mission, so he still has his item backpack with him. It's a good thing, too. For all he knows, he'll need his potions. At least he's prepared. For what, though?
Well, he's not going to find out here. He starts the walk to the village.
