So, I need some ideas on what you'd do to make the vine less flame-like and less baby butch.  It's a nice design but a far cry from the delicate vine I've always wanted.   Going to JP to see the artist for some modifications on Monday and I really want to leave there in love with this tattoo.  Creative ideas??  Also....I'm looking for ideas in the ( Read more... )

You mentioned the leaves and adding more of those in, that's a start. Perhaps you could add a small flower or two? There are lots of flowering vines and some that are white so it would go with your whole B&W thing.

Here's one called Angel's Wings which might go well with the celestial motif.

The only problem is that they'll have to nestle a bit or flower on the tips of the vine since they can't conceal the vine "behind" them.

They're pretty, but I'm not really into having flowers on my arm...

don't vines usually bear leaves or flowers ot fruit? I'd say add some leaves of some sort.

Yes. There are definitely going to be more leaves. There are only two, at my request. The leaves he drew on his stencil looked huge to me. On my arm they look a lot smaller. Hoping we can improve the look just by adding them in.

I think it might look less flame-like if he could connect some of the free-floating sections of vine together, particularly in the 3rd and 6th pics. That way it'd be more viney/snakey and less candle-flamey.

That is what I am hoping he can do. The problem I see is that they don't line up the way they should, particularly in the 6ths pic.

I actually thought it was more of a clouds and moon/sun effect for the band with the way it was designed. I did a quick goggle imaged gor vine tatoos and there seems to be a much more philagried design with the vine work I saw there, and also distinctive leaf pattern like ivy that makes it more distinguishable as the real plant as opposed to a design. Having leaves/flowers to compliment the vines should convey their nature more redily, just have to think of the type and color that appeals to you.

This started out as me wanting a really delicate, single needle-type armband. Ivy is really not my thing and I'd like to keep it black and grey. So with those preferences, I have to figure out not only how to make it feminine, but how to modify an artist's work...

Wait on the ink. Bring sharpies to parties and see what people come up with. When you find someone who does work you like. Commission them to finish the design.

Already been modified by the artist :-) You saw it on Friday night, or maybe missed it being surrounded by partially clothed people that would be distracting. ;-)

Hey, I was surrounded by tons of people in various degrees of undress too. My memory for detail is ...... like that of a gnat. That's when I'm not distracted by shiny things. I'm lucky if I remember my name in that atmosphere.
