2012 Olympic Games and Team USA

Looking at the medal count, Team USA is doing very well by all standards, but we didn't do so hot in any of the equestrian events. I've been trolling around the forums looking to see what others think about our non-medal performance, and it seems that those who think our performance was pretty poor are in the minority. Something that the commentator here suggested - I don't know enough about the scene to say if she was right or wrong - was that a lot of competitions in the US tend to be marked a little more generously. I don't know if that was dressage specific or not, but they were certainly saying that you could score higher for the same test in the US. That could certainly create more of a false sense of security in the results you are scoring. With teams like Australia and New Zealand most of their competitors are on the European circuit anyway but that might be contributing to the disparity?

We definitely need to do something about competing with our international brethren much more often, but that is very expensive. I think so much of it comes down to money and distance. And then there is the quality of tests and judging to consider too.
