So, I am trying to get back into writing on here some more and I thought this latest episode of Teen Wolf was noteworthy enough to give my fantastic (read - sarcastically) opinion on it. Note, i will be speaking about major plot points pertaining to last night's episode so if you would like to not be spoiled, turn away now.
Let's start out with how I felt about the episode over all. I thought this episode was very entertaining. I felt that so many plot points were hit and built upon to make us ready for the massive build up and mid-season finale. I'm anxious to see what's coming. There were some things I felt could have been touched on some more and some that I felt were a little glossed over but I thoroughly enjoyed 95% of this episode which makes it a win in my book. Now, let's talk about some of my favorite themes/scenes.
The first scene I really liked was Stiles and Sheriff Stilinski's first screen moment. We get a moment of father son bonding over the death of one of the deputies and how she fit into the Stilinski family dynamic. I really like that you get little hints of what life was like when the Sheriff had little boy Stiles to watch and try to do his job. This tiny moment just gives us that one little peek. Of course, I love Linden Ashby and Dylan O'Brien's chemistry onscreen and really feel that their relationship is one of the touchstones of the show. I would really like to see even more 'Papa' Stilinski and Stiles bonding in 3B (assuming the Sheriff is still alive). I have a whole theme to their relations ship that I will touch on in a moment.
My next favorite moment is also Stiles related (shocker I know considering he is my favorite character on the show) and is kind of a combination of two scenes. It's the story point where Scott and Stiles are talking with Ethan trying to work out who the Darach might be. While its a moment where you can start to see Stiles is even more frustrated with the building events and maybe even being pushed beyond his limits, the interesting bit is the story Ethan tells of he and his twin's previous pack and their place in it. You get a sense of why they beholden themselves to Deucalion. I also really enjoy the fact that Aiden is telling Ethan to stay away from Danny. The conflict between the twins is entertaining to watch and see where it will go. The sense I get whenever Ethan speaks or is around Scott seems more like a beta looking or working with an alpha. I think a friendship between the two seems likely and actually may have benefits for both. It will be interesting to see where these two characters will go in the episodes to come. Plus, who doesn't LOVE Dethan?!
The other overall theme to this episode circles back to Sheriff Stilinski and Stiles. The build up in this season of all the murders and the issues that Beacon Hills has been facing for (known now) for more than 30 years has finally come to a head for Stiles. It's time for him to tell his father the truth. I liked how we got to see him really struggle with that decision over the course of two seasons and now, to truly save his dad, he has to do the one thing that he never wanted to do. The moment is just like all my favorite Stilinski men moments; emotionally charged yet funny. The elements of humor alongside the serious reveal is a great balance. Kudos to Jeff Davis and the writers for that. This moment carries over into the hospital when they bring Cora in. The tension just rises between father and son until 'Papa' Stilinski finally snaps at son Stiles. This moment culminates in a definitive moment where Stiles truly realizes that his dad doesn't believe anything he's told him. Then Stiles goes for the jugular with, "Mom would've believed me." This moment also kills me because these are his last words to his father, the one family member Stiles has left, before he (maybe) lost him forever. I think that my heart just dropped in that moment. He sees that his father knows the truth and then he's gone. This episode was really my Stiles episode and I cannot wait to see what happens.
My last favorite moment is a Dethan moment (really the only one in the episode). I like that Ethan tells Danny to find him if anything happens.
Anyway, that's my opinion....
