Perhaps there's something to the idea that a baby will react to sounds (e.g. music, familiar voices) they often heard while in the womb. Simon was fussy and wouldn't go back to sleep. After eliminating the more obvious possibilities (e.g. hunger, wet diaper, etc.), I turned on some music and he instantly went back to sleep. The song? We're All ( Read more... ) -

I got a message on Tuesday conforming my appointment with the clinic at 10:00 a.m. Wednesday the 23rd. I knew my appointment was in the afternoon, so I was a little puzzled, but I couldn't find the reminder card that said for sure what the appointment time was. Haha. Joe argued vehemently with me yesterday that the Utah Jazz were a soccer team that was later renamed Real Salt Lake. While there is an MLS team called Real Salt Lake (they're actually a fairly good team, as far as American soccer goes...), they were never once called the Utah Jazz. SO I had the growth scan. Simon's still a boy (as evidenced by the ultrasound tech's exclamation of "Holy crap he's got big balls!"), still has all his limbs, etc. However, they're basically telling me that I'm giving birth to King Kong, and that he'll be massive. Knowing that these scans can be off by up to a kilo or more, so I'm hesitant to ( Read more... ) -

I love being treated like a leper at the midwife's office because Joe and I aren't exactly rolling in dough. The referral for this one doctor doesn't seem to be accurate (well, the phone number isn't accurate at all, and according to the phone book, there are no Dr. Fernandez's anywhere in Ocean County, let alone in Toms River, which was where I ( Read more... ) -

When a person is depressed, I can't decide if listening to depressing music is a good thing or not. For me, it can 'be quite cathartic. When I'm depressed about something, happy music just irritates me to no end. I suppose it can have the opposite effect for some people. This is brought to you by my current Leonard Cohen kick. I logged into my Youtube account, and found in my "recommended for you" section some songs by a band that, while NOT Canadian, is fronted by Leonard Cohen's son. I think I listened to one Leonard Cohen song ages ago, thus the recommendation. Normally these things don't work for me at all, but this time I love it.
