[After having inspected the seal for long enough Julian thinks he knows what to do with it. Sitting cross-legged on his bed he addresses it in what he hopes is a suitably stern and authoritative tone:]

Now look here - [he falls sadly short of both stern and authoritative and ends up just sounding a bit petulant. He doesn’t usually get to try out his ( Read more... )

What's a buy-your-leaves? And cats suck. Except that one cat, he was a cool dude and I fed him ham.

Er, it means... they didn't ask. Or say please. [ slightly nettled: ] And I'm sorry that you don't like cats - but our cat is lovely.

Magic people-things don't ask, cause they don't have to. And dogs are way cooler.

Well. Magic-people-things ought to magic themselves some manners, I think. And don't get me wrong, I do like dogs too! But - I mean, I'd quite like a dog one day! But only as long as he gets along with Socks...

There is no way out. I suppose the sooner you accept that, the better. You're certainly not the only one who isn't delighted at being dragged here without prior notice.

What do you mean 'no way out'? Surely there's a train station? Or a... a bus service? I see there's some sort of coast line, there must be a boat that goes somewhere at least...

To be more precise, there is none at this point in time. Apparently the locals are working for a way to send us back home, but until then, we're stuck here.

Of course there's no bus service, let alone a train station or a boat.

[ Julian has some very sharp thoughts about Civilised Societies Lacking A Basic Transport Infrastructure - but he can tell this is probably a hopeless case and keeps the thought to himself ]

Right. Well. Thank you very much for the information. [ a stifled sigh ] I suppose it's good to know we're not along in being pulled here like that. How long have you been here?

Sorry, but I doubt you'd get far with a train. I have yet to see any sign of rails in this world, never mind a train station.

[ a little sadly ] Yeah, no, so I've gathered. Thank you for the information, anyway... I mean, I'm a little surprised there are no boats? I think I can see a bit of coastline from my window and - well, I would have tried to get hold of one if there were any to be had. It's all rather disappointing.

I haven't seen any yet. Well, unless you count the wreck on the beach anyway. But I wouldn't recommend trying; I have... access to other means of transportation and since that doesn't get me off-world, I don't think a boat will.

[WRECK ON THE BEACH - how curious. But Julian is slightly more worried about something else... ] S-sorry, I know this might be a rather stupid question but you keep saying 'world'?

[ Julian's still under the impression that this is somewhere far-but-not-too-far-from-home. Like the Isle of Wight. Or Wales. The idea that it might be a whole new world hasn't yet occurred to him... but now it has, he's suddenly feeling a little anxious. ]

'Train'?

Yes, train. Like, er... a steam train. Or a modern one, like an electric or diesel one? You know... [ he's gesticulating helpfully but obvs not that helpfully given that it's voice :'| ] ...trains.

Uh. [a little carefully: ] I - it's just, I'm not very good at travelling during the day.

[Bambi's pretty sure that's a lie from his tone of voice, but he decides to leave it alone.]

Ain't gonna be travellin' anyway. There's no way out.

[weakly:] Y-yes, so I've gathered. Thank you, anyway. So are we just... all supposed to sit tight and wait until somebody figures out how to get us out or something?
