[a beat, like she's thinking on this; but instead of answering, Maka goes on to ask instead:]

.. What about you, Crona? What would you do?

ah, he feels...guilty. ]

[ well. no use in dragging it out. ]

As long as you guys are here, a-as long as there's the possibility of the rest showing up...

I...I would stay here.

We can't all stay here forever, though.

[but she can, at least, understand the reasoning behind Crona's response]

[ Kid was on his way back from the Clinic when he saw Crona at the fountain. He altered his course, walking into audible range just in time to catch the last sentence. ]

Crona?

[-!! Kid...? it's unusual for him to see Kid around in this district-- not that he really gets out enough to judge so, but...

glancing up from his Seal with the sound of a familiar voice, he clenches it a little tighter. ]

Kid. H-hello.

[ Kid comes to stand next to you, turning a speculative look at the fountain as though trying to discern what's so captivating for Crona here. ]

I didn't mean to eavesdrop, but is everything all right?

[ coins aside, this is one of his favourite places to visit, at least in his own district. he might not think the same if he knew the water is currently poisoned, but no less. ]

Um...y-yeah. [ a quick glance back to the fountain-- ] -- I've just been thinking. About how long we've been here...how long I've been here, and if...I'll ever go back. And what it would be like, and...

[ he trails off before he spirals any farther into that thought. for now, he won't bother asking if Kid would go back. the answer is obvious. ]

If you don't mind me asking, why ask this six months into your stay?

U-um, well... I started thinking about all the people who have disappeared -- I've had a lot of roommates in the past six months, I mean. I know w-we can't be sure about whether the people who are gone made it home, but...I started thinking about how nice Splendor is, a-and whether the possibility of "going back" is really important for everyone as a whole.

I...I think I would stay here.

I had spoken once to someone who had disappeared and returned. He said he was brought back to where he'd been before Splendor.

And it is a nice enough place, isn't it, but staying here makes it hard to, ah, get certain things done. Our responsibilities still await us back home.

[ how surprising, for them to remember it... he recalls that Soul has been here several times, though he didn't seem to remember the first.

that makes him a little uneasy, to be honest-- thinking about it...after all, Lady Medusa has already been here once before. what if...she showed up again? but then-- that also meant that if Crona went back to Shibusen, there would always be the chance he could come back to Splendor...! ]

It's...nice. I r-really like it. But...you're r-right...the things that happened back home, everything is still there. Maybe it's just waiting f-for the exact second someone comes back to continue. W-what a scary thought, huh?

[ Another one at about six months. Hn. ]

[ he might be relieved. sometimes it seems like the city's inhabitants are just as ever-changing as this city itself...it's lonely, even considering his friends. ]

Do you have something you need to do? O-or...do you just miss it...?

[repelling]

[ It isn't a relieving thought for him, however. First Kid-san, then this person. He has no will to stay here for that long. ]

I have a life to live in my own world. Wasting time in what must be a temporary prison is pointless.

voice;

[ for Crona, it's the complete opposite. he'd rather stay here as long as possible. still-- he can't help but feel a little intimidated by the surety in Ishida's voice. ]

I-- oh...

[ it takes a moment for him to think of how to respond. what is there to say? ]

M-maybe if you found something to enjoy while here, it wouldn't be so pointless. I mean...if y-you can't control when you go back, i-if you do, you can spend the time however you want!

[ she feels a pang of homesickness at thinking about the chances of going home again. but she steels her determination, because she promised herself she wouldn't stop trying until she got out of here. ]

[ Crona hastily changes the mode to VIDEO, since he knows firsthand that talking to a blank screen can be a little awkward. even if...he's a little awkward always, anyways. ]

I'm glad. I hope...you can r-return home someday.

I wonder...what it would be like, to actually get that choice. I-it makes being brought here seem a lot less "big", huh?

Thanks. [ In Asahi's case, she mainly uses video because while a blank seal would be like a cell phone... she just feels safer with a visual security blanket for her Iris. ]

It would be nice if we could come and go whenever we wanted. I mean, aside from being stranded here, Splendor's not that bad.

[ blinking far too many times for it to really be needed, Crona resolutely stares at the Seal, resisting the urge to rub the bridge of his nose for a distraction. ]

Ah-- that would be nice...! Although...m-maybe not, because if we could get back in, what if...bad things got in? I'd hate for Splendor to be polluted...

[ about as much as he hates his hand in potentially polluting it himself, actually. ]

I guess that possibility exists even now, t-though.
