I... didn't know how to do anything. Ever since then, I had to stay in the manor at Baticul for my own protection.
[Not quite lying, not quite the truth either. Ugh.. this is uncomfortable. It's not like he's quite as ashamed of being a replica anymore, but it's still not the kind of thing he feels like shouting about either - he remembers full well how the people in Baticul reacted to all those replicas. Not to mention there were likely a lot of other reasons besides "his protection" that he was locked up in the manor... but none of those reasons were things he really wanted to contemplate...]

So, uh... what kinds of books do you like to read anyway?
[It's not so much that Luke hates books, as the fact that there weren't many entertaining books suitable for one learning to read at the apparent age of 13 or so in the Fabre household. He'd never really had the best of chance to get that interested.]
