[There's a strange descent of peacefulness once night comes. It lays over the residents and takes them into a deep sleep. Soft sleep. Sweet sleep. A phantom walks the city, a smile to her features, while somewhere, her double sleeps deeply in a bed, wrapped in sheets and blankets ( Read more... )

[A familiar scene-- a familiar dream. It haunts him many nights of the week with no sign of ceasing. It starts on a beautiful, snowy day in what appears to be a wealthy city. The town gleams under a fresh coat of snow, and the echoing sound of happy children can be heard all throughout. Snowmen litter the street, and snowball fights break out all about town. For one day, the city belongs to the youth.]

[Cut to the the upper corner-- the noble corner. No children play here. There is no sound of youthful delight; no hastily made snow sculptures. Here the residents stay inside, sipping hot drinks and making idle conversation while waiting on luxurious meals or brave visitors.]

[But one house shows the tiniest bit of activity-- a red haired boy runs outside, his arms outstretched like an airplane, his cheeks flushed with delight. His mother follows, a rare smile etched on her pale, gaunt face. He laughs and slows his pace to match hers and they proceed to the garden, normally full of bright, blooming flowers but today a crisp, fresh ( ... )

[This is new. Zelos is almost shocked to see his dream violated and for a few moments remains motionless. Against his urges, he decides to stand back and watch what will happen next.]

[Slowly, quietly, he begins to follow her, watching her carry his younger self. This is surreal. The sounds blur around him and the image of his mother gradually fades as he follows her, and the scenery melts into that of a happier side of town.]

[Zelos follows to the edge of the field and wavers there, watching the hijacked dream unfold before him. The snow gradually begins to melt and the flowers peek out. His childhood self sits jaded and shocked and all sorts of an empty shell, his eyes dark.]

[Carefully, he takes a step forward. Who is this woman? Why is she in his dream? Why is she helping him? She should be helping mother, the one who dyed the snow red, the one who--

But then, no, he remembers this is naive. This isn't real.]

Now take this.

[the girl pulls out a box of applejuice from her pocket.]

[Little Zelos takes it, a little too dead inside to even comprehend what's happening. He numbly sticks the straw into the packet and takes a sip of the juice, tasting nothing.]

[Big Zelos, meanwhile, slowly approaches the scene, doing his best not to disturb.]

You need to get some sun, kid. You look like you've been in a cave for years.

...

[He's silent, holding the juice box and staring at the ground. Big Zelos remains still, and little Zelos finally speaks.]

Mom never feels good enough to go outside.

[the girl turns her head as a woman approaches from the glade.]

Ma'm, I think your son suffered a head injury.
