[After talking to a certain anthropomorphic robot, Supey has been wondering about some things.

And like everybody friends with him or in his team knows, nothing good ever comes out of a curious Supey. Why would this time be different?]

This girl said... somebody 'named' her. Can people do that? I mean, naming things... and people.

[Pausing, considering what to say in return to you, Supey.]

We're all named by someone. No one's just born with a name.

[Another pause. Very unsure about the second part.]

Not....sure. I'd like to think everyone does, but I dunno. [She doesn't...exactly have the best model relationship to learn from, after all.]

... I think Cadmus named me. But you guys... you have real names. Not just 'hero' names.

[He tilts his head, raising an eyebrow at her] You guys don't know? [He's honestly surprised by that.]

Not me. [Just pointing that out. Her real name was her hero name.] Why not pick out a real name? Think you have the right to name yourself.

[She shrugs.] Haven't seen it happen. Guess it's possible, though.

...it doesn't feel right, though. Parents give their kids their names, they don't choose the name themselves.

[He wrinkles his nose, biting his lower lip. Sometimes he's an open book isn't he?] Are we too young for this? Should I wait to find the special someone that's just for me?

Well it is common for parents to name their children, and perhaps later in life people gain nicknames. I also hear that it has become common practice for people as they get older to create new names for themselves and change it as they wish. So, I suppose the simple answer to your inquiry is, yes Superboy.

[he pauses on the next question, looking thoughtful before speaking]

I believe they exist, but it is certainly something that has been debated by people for hundreds of years. In the ancient world it was not believed that you had a destined person...just that marriages were arranged by the parents in order to promote wealth and land or continue a line. However, I believe the more modern idea is that there is indeed a person out there for everyone.

[He ponders about it, wrinkling his nose. He had a name, he guessed. 'Superboy' worked just fine most of the time... but everybody seemed to think that was an alias, a name for his heroic things. And he was talking about a normal name, a 'human' one.]

So I can choose my name myself?

[He frowns at the second answer. He doesn't like the sound of that.]

Arranged marriage sounds like an order. I don't want that.

[Somewhat surprised by this request, on the other hand he supposes that it would not hurt for him to have something else to go by]

Certainly. If you think you would like one. Did you have one in mind?

[chuckles]

The practice is mostly uncommon now except with royal families and some higher class citizens I imagine. Do not worry Superboy you will be free to choose who to be with when you find that person.

...No. I don't know much names, and most of them are already from people on the league Cadmus taught me. I can't use those.

[He nods]

Good. ...So I need to find them? How do I do that?

Do... you want a name, Superboy?

( Hi, here's M'gann, being curious and all that. But wanting to be helpful all the same! )

If you would like, I can help?

( Oh... what is this second part he's talking about... M'gann catches all his little gestures, biting lip, neck scratching, glancing away... She's no stranger to any of that... )

You mean like a 'soul mate'? ( Yes, she sounds a little shy - and now she bites the inside of her own cheek, eyes looking off to the side. She's familiar with the human term of soul mates; is it the same with earthlings and martians? )

[He thinks about it for a while. It wasn't like he had wanted a name before... it hadn't even occurred to him that he might need it. He doesn't actually need it actually... yet...]

I think I do. But how can we choose something like a name?

[He frowns at the unfamiliar expression]

What's... a soulmate? I know what a soul is, and I know what a mate is... but...

Maybe we can pick something until you feel you like it? Would that help...?

( He doesn't know what a soul mate is? M'gann feels a little warm in the face having to explain this to him and can't help but stammer along. )

A-a soul mate is ah - they are someone who you feel best connected to spiritually? There is a bond that runs deeper between you and them than... than anyone else.

I guess? I'm not sure what kind of names would fit me, though.

[He raises an eyebrow at the rise of temperature in her face, but doesn't comment on it. If only because it's cute how she's able to blush with green skin.]

...That's how Chii described 'the special someone just for me'. She said I'd be sad when they left my side, and happy when they close to me.

They already do that, don't they? People name their offspring, cities they've founded--[or conquered]--and other things.

Where did you think that names came from in the first place?

[But he's not getting into that love thing.]

[Well that's a change, everybody's been jumping on the love part like flies to honey]

I don't want to name any of those things. I want to name myself.

[He's not a good person to ask when it comes to love. At all.]

You want to name yourself? You don't have a name already?

Kind of. It's more like an alias.

I'm Superboy.

Sure. How else would anyone get named.

[He pauses at the second question, mind flashing to Sora and Kairi and a certain picture in their secret place (and the way his heart tightened when he had seen in for the last time).]

I think they do... for certain people. [That certainly do not include Riku himself.] ...And I guess it's easier to see from the outside than when you are one of the people involved.

I wouldn't know, I have never seen anybody get named.

[...That... actually makes sense, judging by Supey's pasts experiences.] So I should... wait for people to tell me 'they are the one'? Not trust myself?

Almost all things generally get their names from someone else. That doesn't mean they don't get renamed on occasion.

[Or you know... take up an alias because they are just way too paranoid.]

That's not what I said. I think that sometimes people are blind to it, but if the feels right you should probably go for it.

[Voice] seethemoon July 10 2011, 16:21:47 UTC
...So I can get one? I can 'rename' myself?

[He hums, processing what Rikku said] ...how should I 'go for it'? What am I supposed to do?
