[Russia had almost lost track of how long he'd been here in Splendor. Had it really been two months or had time simply messed with him? He wasn't sure but thinking about it never really turned up concrete answers. Nevertheless, Splendor was rather interesting, and Russia could usually find something going on if he looked around. But for some reason ( Read more... )

[Hungary has taken to wandering the streets pretty often. The city is too quiet in her opinion, but she still enjoys it. However, the sound of the music catches her attention and she follows it, curious as to its source. Whoever it is, it sounds lovely. When she reaches the source of the music, however, she is quite surprised. She never would have guessed that Russia was so musically talented, and she's impressed. She's still wary of him and thus stays back a bit, but is going to stick around to listen.]

[Russia's absorbed in the music, plucking notes to traditional Russian songs with ease. Since there's nobody around he lets himself sing along-though the instant somebody would walk by he's clam up. Luckily he hasn't noticed Hungary yet, and she's privy to a side Russia doesn't often present to the other nations. There's a little smile on his face and he's simply enjoying the music.

She's free to stay where she is or wander closer, he wouldn't notice for a while.]

[For the time being, she's content to stay where she is. The music is absolutely lovely, and she considers herself lucky to be seeing and hearing this. It's absolutely beautiful. She can't help but wonder what Austria would think if she told him. She doubts if he'd believe her. After a while, though, she cautiously comes a bit closer.]

[Russia simply enjoys the lovely weather and the fact that he actually has time to play his balalaika. Back home it and his cello had been semi-neglected what with the work he had and all. But here he was free to play whenever he wanted and he loved that.

Eventually he pauses in playing and looks up, spotting Hungary. For a moment he freezes, a deer in the headlights expression on his face.]

A-ah, privjet?

[Russia was oblivious to Rory's presence and continued to play, humming to himself. Rory is free to observe and write notes all he wants, and if he asked about it Russia would certainly answer after he got over the shock of being snuck up on.]

Hmm? [Russia jumped a little and looked over to where Rory was standing. It takes him a moment to recall the question.] Oh, this is a balalaika. It comes from my land.

[ Strange instrument in public? Firo has a feeling he knows who this is, and that's confirmed when he rounds the corner and comes across Russia. He smiles and dashes over.

If Russia doesn't stop him, he'll be reaching for one of the music sheets to get a closer look. ]

[Russia looked up when he heard the patter of feet and smiled at the excited look on Firo's face. He doesn't stop him from grabbing one of the sheets and just idly plucks notes to songs long since memorized.]

I thought you said you couldn't read music?

I can't.

[ He's just curious, and he did want to see if Russia could play without sheet music. But he gets bored of it pretty soon and lets the sheet drift back down onto the table. ]

What happened to that big violin?

Cello. [He absently corrects as he makes sure the paper is weighted down so it won't fly off.] It's back home, I figured I needed to practice my balalaika, and it's easier to cart around.

[training, wandering around and generally angsting about life are this city's favorite nighttime activities...but now music?

Have a Matoi silently watching you from the corner like a creeper she is]

[A lot of people seem to be creeping up on Russia. And he still hasn't learned. SO there his is, sitting at a table and playing music. He sings along occasionally, but as the music is in Russian it is rather unlikely Matoi understands him.]

[a foreign language. What is he singing about? Is there any theme, motif or something being expressed? Or is it music just for the sake of music?]

Absolute music.

[He jumps a little when she speaks up, looking around to find where she is.]

[As Jade was taken to doing most often, he was wandering, mostly for interest and otherwise for boredom.

So it was that he more or less 'stumbled' upon the man playing and humming. He decided to stop and listen for a bit. Jade could appreciate good music, and this was something he'd never heard. He wasn't too close, but he wasn't very far away. Just within eyesight of the player so he didn't interrupt him.]

[Russia doesn't usually play in public, and there has been no end to people coming up and listening, but he really doesn't mind. He's just sitting there enjoying playing his balalaika. Eventually the song trails to and end and he looks up, blinking slightly when he saw Jade just standing there. He greets him with a small smile.] Privjet.

Pardon? [Jade blinks, a bit confused at the word, but he doesn't want to be too much of a bother.]

My apologies. I've never seen an instrument like that before~

Ah, excuse me, I meant to say hello. I can't help but slip into my native language.

[He gives Jade a sheepish look before he glance down at the instrument and then back up with a grin.]

It's a balalaika, traditional instrument from my homeland.
