As you may have realised by now, we order a lot of TV shows on DVD from the local library. Until recently, the library played fair and sent us one disc at a time: that's between two and four episodes to watch in a week, a fairly reasonable demand on one's time. Nothing much seems to happen in any of the episodes plotwise, it all lives or dies on the bizarre Bardic ornateness of the dialogue mingled with a real scatological delight in human filth.

Apart from having Hanbury in it, this sounds like it could be a contender for my least favourite show ever.

The combination of Hanbury Hampden-Turner and delight in human filth: I think the most positive assessment would be "thought-provoking".

I do remember my attention wandering somewhat in Deadwood season 2, but maybe I just wasn't attuned to the dialogue. Certainly, season 3 was excellent, possibly my favourite, so hopefully you make it through this testing period w/r/t your library.

Perhaps your "season two" theory also applies to season two of Moffat Who treated as a show in its own right, as opposed to Davies Who?

(I love your line about Hanbury, even though I was never a Society Game person myself.)

Surely you at least knew 'Time of the Season'?

Your Deadwood posts are almost tempting me to embark on a rewatch myself, had I but worlds enough and time.
