At my last solo/ensemble, my friend and I did a super-easy alto sax duet. We had been sitting first and second chair throughout high school, so we thought it was no problem making it to state. We got a 1. Oh well. We did the same duet on mallet percussion 'cause we both play piano and thought it would be fun. Got a 1* on that. Craziness.

Yeah that happened to me my sophomore year. I tried out while I was sick for state honors choir, sounded like crap, and got in. Then a month later was S/E and I sang it 100 times better than before, and I got a 1.

I just hope that the lower scores don't discourage those middle schoolers.
