All the people here think I'm crazy for leaving Seattle - a cidade do grungi! - to spend my summer in Brazil, especially here in the interior. I think the people here are so fucking rad but I miss my city... especially after reading things by Juliana, Garth, and Marie about CHBP and Sarina moving into the house and pride happenings and Atlas ( Read more... )

Yeah. I got that in Manila too. Half the people I ran into didn't know where Seattle was, and the other half said I was crazy for leaving "the capital of grunge" (it was interesting how they knew Seattle had a lot of indie rock bands come out of it -- but that somehow the spirit of Seattle indie rock is still very much a "grunge" thing).

Heh, I have a map that I carry around when I go to bars that differentiates WA/Seattle from DC, 'cause everyone gets it mixed up.

I am getting kind of sick of my city being known for a band I don't even like that much... I've started to reference Pearl Jam and Alice in Chains a lot more.

I met a crazy south african guy wearing a pearl jam t-shirt when I was in Edinburgh. I love my city, but jesus, I can only talk about driving past Kurt's (he was on a first-name basis with Kurt) house so much.

maladro - playa": is that a playa like someone who plays, or like a beach?

"playa" as in sleeps with a lot of women.

Yea, I kind of wish people knew less about Nirvana and more about Hendrix or something.
I've had some people reference our sports teams though, oddly enough.
