Hi. I bought a Macbook this May and a few weeks later, I started having these shutdown problems, too. I'm relatively new to the Apple world, so it's still taking time for me to figure things out.
Um, what happens with me is that I use my Macbook for a while (let's say an hour) and when I click "shut down" it takes a few seconds for the finder and dock to disappear. After that, I am left with the wallpaper and the cursor (I can move it, I think) and...nothing. It just stays like that and doesn't shut down, so I have to press the power button. Have you faced? I'm wondering what to do and if I should update to 10.5.3, which apparently addresses this issue. Can you help me:(?

Unfortunately I'm still having the same problem, on-and-off. All I can suggest doing is reinstalling Mac OS or taking the machine to an Apple Store and reporting the problem to them. I haven't done this with my own MacBook yet.
