Usually I keep arguments between me and the ones I love between me and the ones that i love *but* in this case I'm going to open the floor up to the rest of you, because I love you all - and I know I might not be seeing things with a completely unprejudiced eye ( Read more... )

Hi Imp! This is where the perks of being one of your Mom's friends comes in where I get to embarrass you by saying she's said so much about you, etc. She really has ( ... )

I remember feeling like I didn't have the coordination for anything.

Turns out, I was right: I didn't have the coordination for anything -- not because of lack of trying, but because my depth perception was screwed up.

But I managed to do okay in soccer anyhow, on defense, because even if I didn't have the coordination, I paid more attention than anybody else on the field -- and that meant that while the other kids were running all over the place, I was in the place I needed to be in, and even if I couldn't necessarily do the right thing, just my physically being there presented a problem to the other team ( ... )

No one who can dance is uncoordinated -- and I am the geekiest of geeks, but still did pretty well playing softball in high school. There is hope!

That said, are there non-competitive activities available? Swimming or martial arts lessons? With swimming badges or martial arts belts, kids work for their own advancement and enjoyment -- less pressure, more personalized learning. Also, classes are divided into different skill levels, so all beginners start together.

I guess my question is, if the Imp wants to quit dancing and isn't big into sports... what does she want to do, and are there alternatives available? Keeping active is important, and so is trying hard; these are great things to learn.

not much available, and seeing how the fact that I can't even walk in a straight line, most sports not a good idea. and plus the Rushville swim team thing, I'm pretty sure wants you to go off a diving board, not exactly a good thing for people with trust issues. And only one type of martial arts available, and I don't really think I want to bother with it, part of my issue is the competitive side with sports yes, but thats not all of it, I haven't been able to find any enjoyment in any type of sport (due to P.E., I have dealt with quite a few), and I do band, quite enjoyable, but thats required at school and thus doesn't take up any extra time. I'd much rather stick to what I'm good at (things that don't require much movement) and do activities like riding my bike to friends houses and walking around town in the afternoon

oh and just to let you know, my problem with dance isn't only the fact that I'm not very coordinated, but the way my teacher did it, it was about the dancers, not about the song at all, it was like she would just coriograph a song so the dance would look good, not to interpret the song
