I hope that I am not the only one on the planet who is appalled by the new Gap ad with Sarah Jessica Parker... the one where she sings trippingly down the street "I Enjoy Being a Girl." Yes, I realize it's a Rogers and Hammerstein song and everyone should think that broadway is wonderful, but gimme a break. I think that the lyrics are nauseating ( Read more... )

i don't know the context of the song.....on their own the lyrics are bad. but - if they are used to describe a fictional person.....they are okay.

Haven't come across this advert of which you speak, though it does sound bad.

I'm feeling the need to play devils advocate.... but strangely I just can't get up the enthusiasm :-)

Aw, i guess there is no room for fun or frivolous unless you are gay, then you can sing things like 'I enjoy being a boy'. Or imagine Harvey Fierstein singing the song. That would be fantastic.

I listened to a black southern jazz musician (wish i caught his name) and he told a great story about recaliming the song dixie and the confederate flag as a symbol of the south rather than one of racism.

Nobody's perfect, and it's ok to be silly.

I like the song. But then i am a well-known misogynist.
