Author's Notes: I'm sorry for this. It's very different from the story I intended to write and it's not like anything I've written so far, being mostly dialogue. I hope you still going to like it at least a little bit.

Summary: Cassie and her best friend have a few chats about Cassie's boyfriend, like most friends do.

"What the hell happened to you?"
Judy, her best friend, burst into the room with her usual cheerfulness but then she saw the dark bruise on Cassie's face and forehead and she stopped dead.
"I was attacked last night" Cassie said simply.
"Oh, my..." Judy exclaimed, stepped closer and examined Cassie's face. "Are you all right? Why didn't you call me? Have you seen a doctor?"
"Calm down. I'm all right."
And she really was. She was a bit surprised by her own calmness, but when she woke up this morning, she was actually happy.
"What exactly happened?"
Cassie continued to put on her make-up. She wasn't very disturbed by her injuries but that didn't mean that she wanted to look like a boxer after a lost match.
"I was coming back from the party last night and three thugs tried to rob me."
She had a suspicion that they wanted to do more than just rob her, but she really didn't want to go there.
"That's... horrible" Judy gasped. "How can you be so calm about this?"
"Because nothing really happened. They pushed me against a wall, that's how I got these" she pointed at her face. "But then a guy appeared and he saved me."
"A guy" Judy sounded skeptical. "One guy saved you?"
"Yes. You really should have seen that. It was like in movie. He simply kicked their asses."
"Oh. My. God." Judy said. "You fell for this guy!"
"No, I didn't." But she saw in the mirror that she went red.
"Yes, you did!"
"No, I didn't!" She smiled, then. "Maybe, a little bit. But he was really great. He waited with me for the ambulance and the cops and he escorted me home."
"Is he hot?"
Cassie went even more red at that, remembering those very special green eyes.
"You wouldn't believe..." she said. "But the best thing is, I have a date with him tonight."
Her smile turned into a grin at Judy's exasperated sigh.

"Talk to me, woman" Judy ordered as she dropped down next to Cassie at their usual table in the library.
"I'm studying" she said knowing she would aggravate her friend.
"Don't play games with me! You disappeared for the whole weekend. I want to hear every dirty detail."
Cassie closed her book, because really, she wanted nothing more than brag about Dean.
"I was with Dean."
"For the whole weekend? You barely know him!"
"What are you? My mother?"
"No, I'm just jealous. Why can't something like this happen to me?"
"You want to be attacked?"
"No. I want to be saved by a mysterious, handsome, hot stranger. So, his name is Dean."
"Yeah. Dean Winchester." Cassie knew that she was smiling stupidly because even his name was hot.
"I don't believe you."
Cassie just smiled even wider.
"What does he do?"
"He's a PI."
"No way! You are just messing with me right now. It's like you fell into a movie or something."
"I assure you, he's totally real. He's a very down-to-earth guy and much more adult than the crazy guys here on campus."
"How old is he?"
"Twenty-three. He's not much older than us but I have a feeling that he has seen much more. He has this sad, almost haunted look sometimes... when he thinks I'm not watching."
"But I bet you are watching all the time. So, he is a dark, handsome, hot, mysterious stranger. I'm going totally green with envy right now."
"Green doesn't suit you."
"Funny. You absolutely have to make a photo, or something. Or no... you have to introduce him to me."
"We will see that. I'm not sure this will be something serious."
"Oh, seeing you I would say it's already serious."

"What's with the brooding?" Judy put a glass of beer in front of Cassie.
"I was just thinking."
"About dark and mysterious, I bet."
"Well, he's not dark but yes, I was thinking about Dean."
"Did you find out that he's not real, actually?"
"You are so funny" Cassie said dryly. "I found a photo in his wallet, yesterday."
"He has a wife? Children?"
"No! He has a brother... or had. I'm not sure. It was a nice photo with two little boys and their father. I asked about it and he said the other boy was his brother. Then he clamped up. When I asked some more he said his brother was gone. I've never... I've never seen someone so sad. I don't think..."
"What?" Judy asked, serious for once.
"He became so quiet after that. I don't think that's normal. It was like he went mute for half a day or so."
"Do you think his brother is dead?"
Cassie just shrugged. She didn't know and Dean was no help there.
"Maybe, I just should let him be. We don't know each other that long. I shouldn't pry."
"You wouldn't be you if you didn't pry."
"Well, thank you." But Judy was right of course.

"Dean's brother is not dead."
They were having coffee between classes, and Cassie wanted to tell someone what she found out, because it was very disturbing and she needed some advice.
"Then what's up with him?"
"I still don't know that, but I know who is dead: his mother."
"Oh. Did you find another photo?"
"No. I was talking about my parents and asked about his. First, he clamped up again but then he told a few things. Obviously, her mother was murdered. I don't know how but his father became a PI after that and Dean is in the family business, too."
"Something's bothering you" Judy declared.
"Yes. I... I don't know if I'm grown up enough for this. Dean... he has issues. Maybe he is even depressed, I don't know. This is a bit too... serious, I guess."
"Do you want relationship-advice?"
Cassie shrugged.
"I think, I love him."
"Really?"
She nodded. She realized that this morning when she woke up in Dean's bed again. He was already up, drinking his morning coffee at motel room's window, lost in his thoughts and she just watched him for minutes. He looked so sad again, so lonely, so vulnerable. Then he turned, saw that she was awake and smiled. His whole face changed when he smiled at her. His eyes turned bright and he looked much younger, free, somehow. It was a bit frightening that she had that effect on him. She realized that she felt the same way when she looked at him. And that was frightening too.
"Since you are with him you are radiating with happiness" Judy said. "No matter what else, I think that has to count. You are happy with him, so my advice is that you should give it an honest try."

"So, that's him." Judy said and Cassie could hear some awe in her voice.
"Yes, that's him."
Cassie couldn't hide how proud she was and she waved at Dean who was standing tall on the other side of the road, in his usual leather jacket. He stood out amongst the students because there was some wildness or roughness around him that made Cassie kind of hot for him.
"Wow" Judy sighed. "I think I see what you were talking about." She added when Dean smiled at Cassie from the distance. Cassie didn't take her eyes from Dean.
"Sorry, but I have to run now."
"Yeah, sure" Judy mumbled but Cassie was already on her way.

Cassie couldn't stop crying as she was dialing Judy. She hated herself for it. She wasn't a hysteric woman who cried like a baby for a man. For a man who lied to her, nevertheless. Or for a man, who was not in his right mind.
"Hey girl, what's up?" Judy picked up for the second ring and Cassie simply sobbed into the line.
"Hey, hey, Cassie, what's wrong? Are you hurt?" Judy asked worriedly.
"I... broke up... with Dean" Cassie said between gulping back her tears.
"What? Why?"
"He lied to me."
"He has a wife. I knew he was too good to be true..."
"No" Cassie cut in. "He doesn't have a wife. He... he..."
"What? You are scaring me. I'm coming over."
"No, you don't have to" Cassie managed to collect herself somewhat. "It's just so... crazy. He simply dropped me."
"Why?"
"I have no idea. He got a call. From his father, he said. He got really serious. He paced for a while. He looked so... troubled... I don't know. Then he sat me down and told me a totally crazy story. I just..."
"What?"
"He's either the biggest douchebag or he's crazy. I don't know which is worse. He..."
"What did he say? If he hurt you, I swear..."
"He didn't. He didn't hurt me. Not really." Cassie took a deep breath. "I don't know what to think. He told me a crazy story about ghosts and demons and monsters. He said he needed to go away to hunt for a ghost."
"Oh, shit."
"He also said that he loved me. And that he wanted to be honest with me. That he wanted to tell me the truth and not just leave."
"That's..."
"That's crazy, right?"
"I don't know. That doesn't sound like he was dropping you."
"No, that sounds like he's schizophrenic or something."
"Well, yes."
"He sounded so earnest. I don't know..."
"What did you do?"
"I think... I shouted at him. I called him crazy. I told him if he wanted to break up with me he didn't need to make up such a crazy story."
"And what did he do?"
"He... he just looked at me like I... don't know... like I killed his kitten or something. I feel like shit."
"Look, he is probably instable. If he really believes in those things then he is clearly not thinking straight."
"Yes, I know. But..."
"I'm coming over."
"He left" Cassie whispered. "I sent him away."
"I'm coming over, sweetie. And I'm bringing a bottle of whiskey."
"Thanks, Judy" she said as her tears started to pour again.
