Forget-me-not: amnesia fics
Mucking around with memory is a favourite fanfic trope and allows some great explorations of how memories make us who we are. The Show of course has followed right along, especially in Season 6 with Sam's experiences. The following is a selection from recent Big Bangs to some older ones that I love. Set after season 6, Sam and Dean have sort of settled down in a small rural town, but Sam's memory is full of holes,and he keeps having horrifying flashbacks to Hell. Then he starts having dreams, dreams about Dean... A quintessential Supernatural story, because it has a brilliantly creepy tale interwoven with an emotional and intimate one.

Paradise Forgotten, by Carver Edlund by tracy_loo_who
Post S4, Zachariah messes with Dean's memories, but Castiel is determined to make him remember, as told by Carver Edlund. The hilarious writing is complimented by a great tale that is quite moving.
Two Lost Boys by mia6363
Post S6 both Sam and Gabriel find themselves both without their memories, turning up at the same bookstore. An intriguing short story that dovetails back into canon at the end in a wonderful way.
A List Of Typos Made by God by cherie-morte
An intriguing (and heartbreaking) concept brilliantly executed as Dean starts to forget. Sam and Dean's relationship is deconstructed, and reconstructed.
Dictionary for a Dead Language by britomart-is
Three years after saying yes to Lucifer, a shattered Sam returns to Dean. This fic explores the idea of loving someone who's no longer recognisable as the person who knew. The writing is a joy, and the story will stay with you for a long time.
Flying Weight by fleshflutter
In this almost harsh story Sam gets his soul back after three years to find Dean, and their relationship, have undergone a radical shift - and he has no memory of why. It takes particular skill to draw the reader, and the characters!, into some connection and intimacy when they start in quite dark places.
