Summary: At times you do look at what happened
Sam thought he handled things well. He did know that Dean told him he'd had a lot of outburst the first day's after he had lost his eyes, though anyone would have had that. It was later that he and all around him had suspected there would have come more than he did.
No one else other than him actually knew how he felt, how he really doubted himself to be able to handle things. In the beginning when he collected himself from his first scare of reality he would never see again he had put on a brave face, made everything he could to handle things, learn how to get around to do ordinary things he never thought he would have a problem to do. One part had been to show Dean he would be able to take care of himself when he would be the last of the Winchester family. He had needed to do it fast as the clock ticked all too quickly.
Sure Sam was lucky to have Bobby, and he thought himself to be able to handle himself good. He did know there still was a lot he had to learn and fight. For a time the hardest was to handle the things without Dean. He missed his brother. He wanted Dean back. He felt like without him he hesitated so much more on what he could do.
Sam wished a lot things had been different. He wished that he wasn't alive, though he had promise Dean never seek up death. A promise he would held matter how much doubt he had or how hard things seem to be.
It just was that he had bad and worse days, when a lot felt dark. The worse he knew he could pester Bobby with trying to find a way to get Dean back. He could take what ever cost it would take to get Dean back in any form.
