I love how you worked in the crossroad with the guitar, but still kept the thread of the original prompt strong. This is lovely and very, very well written.

I especially like this part:

The song was like the way Dean rubbed his thumb over Sam’s cheekbone when he was asleep, just under his eyelashes, or slid his fingertips down Sam’s spine. Like when Dean grabbed him when he’s having a vision or held him down after a nightmare, murmuring a husky-soft voice into his ear. Like the way he always cheated at cards and hogged the covers and kicked in his sleep, tossing and turning, and kissed Sam like he couldn’t quite believe it was happening.

I love the rhythm of this piece. It just sort of rolls around you as you're reading. I liked a lot about it but mostly I love Sam trying to explain how the guitar sounds to him. That was lyricism there.

I actually had Dean playing the final theme from All Hell Breaks Loose, Part I in some of the first drafts, but I got so fed up trying to transcript notes and chords that I finally just let Sam describe it in terms of the emotions it evoked, and left the actual tune up to the reader's imagination. I felt like it was a gamble, though, and I'm really, really glad it worked :)
