Summary: Azazel's got a backup plan
A/N: I think it makes no sense. But it was amusing to write.

A roaring, four-lane highway stretched alongside a muddy lake, which glimmered dully in the evening sun. There was little to see here, save a line of trees and a dark expanse of sickly water, yet a succession of joyful, bright-blue signs declared the availability of a Scenic Area for those who could not simply drive past.

"I just don't think Sam is the hardened warrior you're looking for, Father."

Azazel strode purposefully alongside the highway, confidently breathing the smog and the stench from the unsavory cars that whipped past, and pointedly ignored Meg, who was trotting at his heels with a lumpy canvas sack clutched in her arms.

"I mean ..." Meg's voice was drowned by the long horn of a passing convertible, and she paused to flip a rude gesture. "I mean, he's got a lot of anger in him, but he won't betray his brother. Not like this."

Azazel simply continued to smile, his head held high, and he began to climb the stairs to the catwalk that stretched over Northbound and Southbound to the picture-perfect platform on the other side. He stopped, however, above the center of the Southbound highway, and leaned on the railing to look out at the steady stream of cars that passed noisily beneath him, over a huge, runic sigil that had been painted across the asphalt.

"Sam is the best man for the job," he assured his daughter. "He will lead the demon armies to victory; I have no doubt of that. That's not to say we can't ... oh, help him along a little." Azazel turned around, his arms outstretched toward his daughter, and Meg uncertainly handed him the canvas bag. It yipped and wriggled excitedly, even as the yellow-eyed demon held it firmly.

Meg stepped up to the railing and peered down at the sigil far below, which they had spent a good four hours painting during the night before. "Are you sure this will work?"

Azazel's grin grew sadistic as well as confident, and he winked. "Puppies are the epitome of goodness; they're soft, they're sweet, they're loyal and innocent in every respect. Its sacrifice, here in the spot where the wall between Earth and Hell is thinnest, will open a temporary Devil's Gate long enough for your brothers to escape."

"Yes, but ... during rush hour?"

"Only a mortal human can summon the Gate," Azazel chuckled, amused at his daughter's dull wit. "So we'll just have to ... persuade a human to deliver the killing blow."

Meg didn't seem convinced, but she settled against the railing to watch. Azazel took the bag by the handles and flung it up and over the edge of the wire barricade, then pressed his palms against the rail to watch it fall, his yellow eyes gleaming.

The screech of tires pierced their ears, and a Hummer cut across two lanes to crush a sports car into the path of a semi. The huge truck banked sharply and toppled over into the street and on top of two cars, causing five more and another truck to skid and fishtail to their own demise. There was a short pause, broken only by a few more tire skids and horns, before the overpass rattled with the fiery explosion of a gas tank.

"Um..." Meg wetted her lips and glanced up at her father, raising her voice above the horns and screeches and crunching fenders and screaming drivers. "Was that supposed to happen?"

Azazel and Meg watched, their faces flickering with the light of the growing flames, as a little brown puppy emerged from the wreckage and bounded happily across the lanes toward the trees and the lake beyond. The yellow-eyed demon was quiet for a long moment, then grinned brightly and tipped his head.

"Let's go and see how Sammy's doing, shall we?"
