The Philosopher's Stone transmutes lead into gold AND, through its involvement in the production of the Elixir of Life, also does enable eternal youth/immortality. The two are not incompatible.

What I find interesting is that Mary and Jess were not immediately consumed by the flame and that the blood came out of the third chakra. They weren't bloodied through the heart or through the womb, but the solar plexus. That's WEIRD.
