Heh, you mean at the suggestion Cas hallucinated it all? You're lucky though because at one point the cliffhanger ending was going to be that scene of him coming around and passing out without him (or the readers) knowing if Dean was OK. And there are clues peppered throughout that suggest all might not be as "real" as it seems… the fact Cas sees Sam and Bobby, hears their voices, hears Bobby's dogs. But we looked at the cliffhanger and thought it was way too cruel and we know y'all have been very patient through that long delay before #21, so we pulled the first sections of the final installment forward to give you that moment where Cas is reunited with his Dean... ;-)
Thanks muchly! As we were working on this I think we very much saw it as a personal odyssey for Cas, one that would be very cathartic for him - his redemption, I guess! ;-)
Love it, now want to know if Balthazar & Gabriel made it out of Hell - although Balt's Taj Mahal/Disney Palace hell headquaters sounds almost as mindnumbingly horrendous and torturous as Crowley's endless line. Thank God (and not Chuck no matter what the show canon may try and say) Thank God - Zachariah in hell and Uriel entré - I'd rather see Michael released from the Cage than those two get any sort of Redemption. Awesome, in the true sense of the word.
Heh, actually Zacharia and Uriel were a 2am lightbulb moment wherein I realized that if we were saying that Gabriel and Balthazar were in the Lake of Fire as traitor angels, it followed that Zachariah and Uriel were too. And I sort of had no energy to add any actual scenes with them, and neither did sword, so we dealt with them offscreen, so to speak!
You will have to wait and see wrt Gabriel and Balthazar... but we did cut away from Dean killing the Beast at that precise moment for a reason! ;-)
Thank you for reading, I know I'm late to comment replies so by now you've gottten to the end, but thank you so much for sticking with us this far and enjoying the vision of Hell and the trip as a whole . . .
Oh how cruelly you toy with my emotions XD I thought for a horrible moment that whole hell adventure didn't happen... and oh Cas. My eyes are legit tearing up here. The next part can't come quickly enough!
Weeeell… at one point we were going to end it there as he wakes up! And that was going to be the cliffhanger (there are clues throughout to suggest all might not be as "real" as it seems… the fact Cas sees Sam and Bobby, hears their voices, hears Bobby's dogs). But we thought it was way too cruel to leave you hanging, so we pulled the first sections of the final part forward to give you that moment where Cas is reunited with his Dean... ;-)
Final part posts tomorrow! I can hardly believe it's over!
I know I'm tardy in comment replies, but hopefully you've recovered from your tears so you can read how thankful I am that you read our words! It's much appreciated!
Just read both parts of Episode 24. Wow, that was too much to process. I need to reread it several times. The grief, the grief destroyed me! I was weeping the whole time. Sam and Bobby were both heartbreaking but your mourning angel was heart shattering. =( The warrior brothers - what a fantastic touch! And I'm sorry, I doubt this was your intention but you made me give up on the show once and for all. This fic ruined it for me. Whatever happens on the show, the only advantage it will ever have compared to RR is the eye-candy, and even in that department the fanart is so amazing that most of the time I don't miss it.
Hey bb: so thrilled you enjoyed this! I cannot tell you what a pleasure it has been to give people something for their favorite character, especially fans like you, who fought the fight for so long on that godawful forum of hate. And yeah, I totally get what you mena about feeling emotionally detached from the show because of this AU, I feel that way myself and honestly wonder if I will ever invest in onscreen canon as much as I used to!
Hope you will check back for the final part... ;-)
Thank you for reading, the grief was exhausting but I think, necessary to reach other places in the narrative, to deepen the characters further and give them greater challenges to meet . . . and it's a great thing for ourselves and other contributors to hear that Redemption Road beats out the show in so many respects! Thank you again!
