Dean Winchester [played by Jensen Ackles] was four years old when his mother was killed. Within a few years he had been trained to shoot and was left in charge of protecting his brother Sam when John was out on hunts.
Dean is a huge fan of classic rock and metal. His Impala is probably the only thing he cares about almost as much as Sam. He has a crude and sarcastic sense of humour. Dean is very spontaneous and tends to shoot first, ask questions later. Unlike Sam, Dean isn’t particularly good with technology. He tends to avoid computers and favours cassette tapes to listen to music in his car. Despite his hard outer shell, Dean is very emotional. He is also incredibly flirtatious and full of smart-ass comments. He is physically strong and tends to do well in fights.
Confident, cocky, funny, grumpy, sarcastic, flirtatious, determined, protective, brave.
Sam Winchester was 6 months old when his mother died. He is unlike his brother in the sense that he tried to make a normal life for himself by leaving the family and going to college. It was only when his girlfriend, Jessica was killed did he join Dean in hunting.
Sam is sensitive and the more rational of the siblings. He is analytical and is the one who does most of the research for jobs. He is tech savvy and knows his way around most computers. He tends to get people to trust him more than Dean, by being understanding and compassionate towards victims and witnesses. Despite not having much involvement in hunting when he was younger, Sam is determined when it comes to ‘the job’. He is also skilled with weapons and in hand to hand fighting. He has psychic powers, mostly receiving his visions in dreams.
Intelligent, brave, charming, worrisome, logical, organised, passionate, caring.
John Winchester [played by Jeffery Dean Morgan] raised his sons alone after he witnessed his wife’s death at the hands of Azazel/The Yellow Eyed Demon. His entire life was consumed by his quest to find the demon who ripped his family apart. Along the way he filled a journal with information on several types of supernatural creatures. This came in very handy to his sons when he disappeared for months at a time. He seems to favour his eldest son, Dean over Sam, but it is revealed he cares just as deeply for both of them. However his children had often felt abandoned by him as his hunt always took priority. When the family is finally reunited, John gives his soul to save Dean’s life.
Obsessive, loner, protective, mysterious, committed, fighter.

He lives alone after he had to kill his wife, who was possessed. His house is full of books and hunter tools of the trade. He was good friends with John Winchester. He is a no-nonsense kind of guy and appears to be gifted at exorcisms. He seems to be a surrogate father to Dean and Sam.
Smart, gruff, dedicated, strong, reliable, paternal, sarcastic. Not to mention totally BAMF!
Castiel [played by Mischa Collins] is an angel who first appears in order to save Dean from Hell. Angels possibly do not possess the ability to truly feel emotion. However, Castiel frequently exhibits what could be referred to as friendly affection towards Dean, and seems to at the very least come close to expressing regret, hesitance, and anger several times. He is, however, mostly restrained and has an extremely somber disposition. He also possesses a vast array of powers. Castiel begins having an internal struggle between what is right and what is wrong, and whether or not to obey orders from Heaven. Mischa Collins feels his character’s interactions with Sam and Dean have made the angel "uncertain" and "more fragile". The actor believes Castiel envies Dean's decisiveness and desires to emulate him.
Stoic, powerful, formidable, resolute, conflicted.
Ellen Harvelle [played by Samantha Ferris] runs The Roadhouse with her daughter Jo. She is a formidable woman who is very experienced in the world of hunting. She is a little naive from time to time. Jo has an almost sisterly relationship with the Winchesters, despite the fact she seems to have deeper feelings for Dean.
Tenacious, inexperienced, naive, resourceful
Azazel/Yellow-eyed Demon [played primarily by Frederic Lehne] is the demon who killed Mary Winchester. Azazel holds a lot of authority over other Demons, allowing him to command them as he sees necessary. He is extremely powerful and has possessed many bodies, including John Winchester's.
Scheming, determined, power hungry, calculating, cold, uncaring.
Ash [played by Chad Lindberg] lives with the Harvelle’s at the Roadhouse. He is described as a genius and attended MIT before being thrown out for fighting. On first impression, he comes across as a bit of a typical redneck with his mullet and untidy appearance, but he is very good with computers and can usually find details on anything the Winchesters ask him look into. He is very laidback and a little eccentric.
Quirky, clever, analytical, funny.
Meg Masters [played by Nicki Aycox. Demon later played by Rachel Miner] is a young woman who is possessed by a demon. However the demon soon becomes known as Meg. Meg is the daughter of Azazel. She appears several times, including when she possesses Sam for a brief spell. She originally encounters the Winchesters when she befriends Sam. However she is merely using him to get to his father and his Colt that has the ability to kill demons. She is powerful and rarely outsmarted.
