Apparently this is a sequel to an earlier fic posted before I started reading Jensen/Misha: http://archiveofourown.org/works/219942 "Genre fiction fan falls into genre fiction land!" stories aren't my thing, so I'm waffling about which one to read first.

This has nothing to do with the fic in question, but it's making me wonder about a story genre fiction fan that falls into the wrong genre fiction land. Like, someone who inhales horror novels falling into the romance universe, or a mystery fan that falls into a fantasy world. I have a soft spot for fics where the characters seem to think they're in a much different sort of story than they actually are, and it might be an interesting explanation of genre blindness.

Now that I would read without reservation, especially if some "correct genre" tropes came with them, and the story did both the "newcomer is much better equipped to deal with this problem than the natives" and the "fan is not as well-equipped to deal with the tropes of their favorite genre as they imagined" things.

Yeah, it'd be an interesting exploration of the genre's logic in general: where the genres overlap and where they approach similar problems from different standpoints.
I like the idea of the mystery character in the fantasy universe, constantly asking why they seem to think (s)he's the Chosen One, trying to draw upon their contacts, and asking questions about seemingly insignificant details.

Oh god, brand new thing I suddenly desperately want. I can't help thinking that surely something like that's been done in published fiction before, somewhere?

I've read the one before, it was long, but I remember it has great world building, the story is more plot driven than relationship driven (though it dragged a little in the middle), the side characters are well drawn. I didn't read it all of it in one go, but I enjoyed it.

Okay, I give up. I've been reading the first story so I'll have context for this one, and it's just not working for me.
Spoilers for Springboard Helix:
[Spoiler (click to open)]Lots of big wodges of exposition, some of them taking the place of sequences I actually wanted to see, like Jensen's wormhole training (there's a reason why the milsf convention is to show at least the first day) and him and Misha sorting out the relationship issues raised by the reveal that Misha has been with the X-Men in Black all along without telling Jensen. This is a more plot- than ship-oriented fic and that's fine, but if a character is married, and the very premise of the fic involves a massive upheaval in that relationship, I need you to treat this onscreen and not in a single paragraph of summary. This is partly a matter of this story just not being the story I wanted it to be, which is not the author's fault, but the one moment of real tension and interest I've experienced was when supposed climatologist/activist Misha went all military shadow organization after the

Also, I just want to see bodice-ripper characters vs. tentacled horrors from the edges of spacetime.

Oh, probably. I just can't think of any examples.
This is going into my notebook of possible fic ideas, so, uh. If a Mishalecki AU with this premise shows up in the next big bang, hi.

You know, I'd be really surprised if this doesn't happen at some point in the Jasper Fforde Tuesday Next series.
