Blood Spatter

Jan 06, 2011 06:22

I have only just now done my first digitally coloured picture for this fandom, so I don't even know if what I'm sharing has merit, but it certainly helped me out.

I needed blood spatter (which was why I went the way of adding colour despite my full fear, since it looked like crap in monochrome), and google showed me these: glossy blood spatter Read more... )

type: brushes, medium: digital art

You might want to check out the hints and tips being posted here http://community.livejournal.com/spnartsupport/profile
As a novice myself I've found some useful stuff there and elsewhere (and am still making it up as I go!)

What kind of blood splatter do you have in mind? be it drops on the floor or splatter on clothing after shooting someone point blank or gallons of them on the wall dripping down?

I found those splatter brushes useful if you're trying to draw splatters on a flat surface (still use it sparingly or you'll end up with a jackson pollock painting) but don't work quite as well on folds of clothings.

I used them really small here, and a different brush each time.

I do have other pictures in mind that will need more blood, and those won't work for them. But they seemed applicable for what I was trying to get done with this picture--a bit of blood spatter after fist contact with face.

Hehe, thanks for linking me to that fic, much love. :D So based on that scene I'd actually imagine the blood splatter to be closer to the top of his torso (I'm guessing it's a right hook to the face that got the attacker spinning). I'd reccommend using bursh that gives you a long and narrow drops, sort of like here:
