 Title: Suspension of Disbelief
Author:

Rating: PG
Characters: Sam and Dean
Challenge: Deserted Island
Summary: Sam and Dean have an argument inspired by a mysterious island.

The day had been long and dirty. One of those hunts that really reminded Sam why he had tried to choose law as a profession instead of hunting evil.  Lawyers almost never come home covered in dust, cobwebs, and rat feces.  Lawyers get paid when they finish a job, not chased off by police.  And best of all, when lawyers argue with someone, that person is almost always sane and logical.  Unlike a certain brother Sam could name.

"Seriously, dude.  I don't know why you care about those people.  They are so stupid that they actually deserve to die."

"Dean," Sam huffed, pinching the bridge of his nose, "Do I really have to explain to you again the difference between reality and fiction?"

"Come on," Dean continued, as if Sam hadn't tried to bring reason into the picture. "If you're trapped on a deserted island with a bunch of strangers and a cloud of smoke that eats people, which would you worry about first?  These losers get so worked up over The Others but they totally ignore the obviously demonic presence.  They don't need guns, they need freaking salt lines!"

"They don't know about salt lines! They're just normal people!  Besides, where would they even get enough salt? I doubt there were sacks of it on the plane."

Dean rolled his eyes.  "It's an island, Sam.  It's surrounded by salt water.  They could boil it down and make their own."

"They'd still need someone to tell them what to do with it.  And besides, you don't know the monster's demonic."

"It's an evil black smoke cloud. What else could it be?"

"Fictional!" Sam exclaimed.

Dean harrumphed.  Sam turned the tv off.  And the light.  Then he sat silently in the darkness, missing college.

Author's Note:  In case it wasn't clear, the boys are talking about "Lost".  This is my first time here, so I hope this interpretation of "deserted island" wasn't too far off base.  If it helps, I think Sam is feeling a little isolated at this point.
