I'm really glad GR is doing some POSITIVE urban renewal. I know in many cities, most specifically San Fransisco, similar projects are masked by the words "urban renewal" but really are only geared toward the upper middle and upper classes. Which means students, artists, and anyone working a minimum wage job is pushed out of their neighborhoods to make room for the wealthy. What is a community if it doesn't embrace everyone? I just read a book called Hollow City that you would be interested in...it's all about this gentrification of San Fransisco.

I stumbled upon your article because I'm a friend of Travis' and saw you on his friends list. I'm also into urban planning. I'm almost finished with my BFA in interior design but am going for my masters in urban planning, probably from Washington State University. (I'm moving to Seattle in three months!) I hope to get involved with their fair housing commission as soon as I get out there.

You should add me, I would love to share more info.
