Jinn are also thought to be able to possess humans, and where some people believe spirits haunt homes, many Muslims believe if your house seems haunted, it's probably because of some jinn gone bad.

The ifrit interests me - because the sand/wind phenomina called "the dust devil" turns up in the Navajo Blessing Way as the chindi - an angry ghost capable of haunting. (I confess that's all I know - and Tony Hillerman taught me that)

Or just ancestor spirits, because they tend to follow the old paths, back and forth to ruins, abandoned hogans and pueblos, etc. Probably because it's a tad lower, but I have seen dust devils do very strange things and look very purposeful about it!
