This is a touching story -- introspective and it adds some dignity and complexity to both Gaila and Scotty as characters.

I don't want to assume that that DVD extra scene is the primary writing prompt but this is a nice response to all-too-frequent characterization of the "good time gal" female character who is too often simply the butt of a joke.

I always appreciate it when writers strive to show that female characters like Gaila can be both bawdy and complex -- the real-life women such characters seem to be based upon always are, in my experience.

Thanks Zizi, I didn't see the DVD scene till after I'd written 2/3 Gaila memorials. It may affect the 3rd tho as that will be Kirk. At least they did the decent thing and chopped it. I assume, since Gaila is smart enough to get into Starfleet that there is a lot that lies beneath.

So lovely and affecting. I feel somehow wrung out with despair and regret while being at the same time swaddled in the memory of love and beauty.
