A date! I have a date today! I have to get all dressed up and pretty! *takes hours to get properly ready, donning the dark blue, slinky dress and fixing up her hair nicely*
Idril: *gets ready for her date with Rumil, heading down to the doors of the palace, fluffing her hair and smoothing her dress as she waits*
Rumil: *is dressed in his best jeans and coolest new shirt and walks over to the palace. A guard stops him and he shuffles his feet nervously as he speaks* Hi...I'm here to see Idril. Can you tell me where...*The guard points before he can finish and he ambles that direction*
Idril: *sees him and smiles, waving* Hey, Rumil!
Rumil: *smiles, relieved to have found her and rushes up to hug her* Hi! Wow this place is huge. *gives her a hug and pulls a somewhat frazzled pink carnation out of his back pocket* This is for you.
Idril: *hugs him back and grins, taking the flower* Oh, that's sweet! Thanks. *sticks it behind her ear and takes his arm* So where are we going? I'm starved!
Rumil: *grins* I found a neat little place on a side street. It has a courtyard with outdoor seating next to...wait for it...a fountain! *chuckles* Imagine that? Anyway, I hear they have good steak. I know you like snacks, but you can't live on junk food alone.
Idril: *laughs* I like regular food, too! Ada made way too many fountains in this city. You like steak?
Rumil: *takes a step back to admire her* Whatever you eat is working for you. Steak is awesome. I could eat it every day, but I'm sure they have other stuff too. *looks her up and down again* Is this the infamous dress?
Idril: *grins and turns slowly for him, making sure to show off as she does* Yep. You like?
Rumil: *watches her, grinning broadly* Absolutely. You're the prettiest thing I've seen in weeks. *takes her hand and laces his fingers through hers* But if I stand here admiring you, we'll starve. I can admire you from across the table. *leads her out onto the sidewalk* You don't mind walking, do you?
Idril: Not at all. I like walking. *swings their hands slightly and looks him up and down as well* You know, you look quite nice yourself tonight.
Rumil: *grins a little, self-conscious* Thanks! I tried...I mean, there's only so much a guy can do. Bathe, wash hair, put on clean clothes. Done. *chuckles* But thanks. *looks at the flower in her hair* That's a nice look for you.
Idril: You think so? I guess, with just the right flower. *winks at him* I think the pink, especially, makes it shiny.
Rumil: I think any flower would look better nestled in your hair. *reaches up to straighen it behind her ear* You're the one who brings out its beauty. *grins and feels like a giant dork* Here's the place...*opens the door for her* I made the reservation yesterday.
Idril: *giggles* Flatterer. *looks around inside* Hey, I haven't been here before. It's so cute!
Rumil: *the waiter leads them through the restaurant to the courtyard out back and seats them near the fountain. Rumil holds out her chair for her, then sits next to her* I hoped you would like it. Opens up to the wine list and orders a bottle to start* I hope white is okay.
Idril: White is fine. *looks over the menu, in between looking around outside near the fountain* Oh, I'm glad it's one of the normal fountains! The water gives it a nice touch to the restaurant. *grins and watches him over the top of his menu*
Rumil: *remembers the soup fountain and grimaces* Whoever thought of a soup fountain should be throttled. *blushes and looks up quickly* Unless it was you! or your Dad!
Idril: *bursts out laughing* Actually, apparently the fountains changed because of Eru's cold. He sneezed and they became something else!
Rumil: *looks visibly relieved* Oh, thank Eru. Then I'll admit that I think the soup fountain is nasty. UGH! I smelled like clams for a week. Maeglin had to burn my old clothes, which sucks because I liked those pants. *pours the wine and lifts his glass to toast* Here's to lovely and charming dinner companions.
Idril: *shudders at the account of soup-in-pants* Oh, that sounds just *awful*! *lifts her glass to his and winks* To lovely and charming dinner companions. *takes a sip*
Rumil: *sips his and smiles* Perfect. *remembers that white doesn't go with steak, but says nothing.* A less messy entry would have been nice, but at least I got here. If I'd never landed in the soup, I would have never met you.
Idril: *laughs softly and reaches over to stroke his cheek with her thumb* Nor I you. I do kind of wish I'd gotten to see that entrance, though. Nothing but memorable, I bet!
Rumil: *catches her hand and places a kiss in the center of her palm* Memorable is one way to describe it. Messy would be another. Smelly. Stinky. *chuckles* I'm sure you would have run the other direction. *gives her a wink* I bet you never have a hair out of place.
Idril: Well... *taps a finger to her chin, looking thoughtful* You know, I think you're right! *joking, mostly, and grins brightly* You should see me when I get into trouble on my adventures. But shh, don't tell me ada I do. He'd stop me altogether!
Rumil: *leans forward and whispers* They'll be our secret. *grins* What's the most daring adventure you had?
Idril: *leans closer as well and lowers her voice* Well, there was an instant when I was adventuring in some woods a bit away from here. I was just going along merrily when I heard something behind me. Of course, then I became a little worried and tried treading softer, finding a good stick along the way to bat at any animals that might come out at me. But then, it got closer, and louder, and it was snarling so angrily, so I climbed up the nearest tree and got ready to strike at it as it came into view... *takes a deep breath* And when it did, it turned out to be... a badger. *small laugh*
Rumil: *acts impressed* Hey, badgers can be mean. They will bite you if you poke them with sticks. Not that I'd ever do that. You're quite the adventurous girl. I like that. It's much more interesting than a girl who does nothing but gossip all day.
Idril: *grins* I admit, I do that, too. Especially when I'm in a place with lots of people to create gossip. So, whenever I come home. *winks* And now there's *so* much more family and so many new people that it's easy to find something to talk about!
Rumil: *nods* You do have lots of family members who are good fun to gossip about. *grins* I can't blame you for that. All I have is Haldir and he's as exciting as watching paint dry.
Idril: Heh, true. So what do you like to do, besides singing and dancing? Or, rather, what have you been doing since you got here?
Rumil: *leans back in his chair and takes a sip of his wine* Honestly? Not much, other than goofing off with Maeglin, shopping and going to parties. It's fun - don't get me wrong, but I need to find a job. I hope the acting troup will be forming soon. I miss being on stage. Hmm...besides acting and singing, I also play the guitar.
Idril: Ooh. Have you met my uncle Kana yet? She's incredibly talented, if a little on the crazy side.
Rumil: *blinks a few times then leans closer* I'm sorry, I thought you said "uncle" and then "she."
Idril: I did. Eru sneeze. *grave nod*
Rumil: Holy shit. *claps his hand over his mouth* Sorry. I mean...it's just...he's a she?! *takes a larger gulp of his wine* So, Eru can sneeze and suddenly the dangly bits disappear?
Idril: *nods again* I haven't heard of it happening to anyone else, though. *smiles* So you'll just have to be wary with her when you meet her. Him. I can never decide what to call uncle Kana because she claims she, or he, is still a man. *slightly confused look*
Rumil: *has his own slightly confused look going* Uhh...I think that would be weird. I have a bad habit of screwing up and I think he...she...whatever, would be a bad one to piss off.
Idril: Yeah. If you knew my old uncle Kana, you'd love him. He was great! And quiet and still talented, so you could actually *talk* to him without fearing for your life.
Rumil: Between him...her and your dad, I'm sort of afraid to meet your family. *winks*
Idril: *grins* It's amazing how I turned out, isn't it? *bats her eyes cutely*
Rumil: *refills both glasses* You turned out amazingly well. *grins* Are you ready to order? The waiter keeps giving me that look.
Idril: *laughs and sips her drink* I'm ready.
Rumil: *places his order, waits for her to place one as well* So, tell me more about your dad. Obviously, you have him wrapped around your little finger. *takes her hand* And what a pretty little finger it is.
Idril: *gives her order and smiles at him* I do indeed. He dotes on me like any proper father should.
Rumil: I think it would be easy to dote on you. One smile, and he'd do whatever you wanted. I know it has that effect on me.
Idril: Oh? *smiles wider* And what would you do for me?
Rumil: *rubs the back of her hand with his thumb* Spend all of my money and most of my time trying to make sure that smile never leaves your face.
Idril: *covers under his hand with her free one, leaning closer to kiss his cheek* You're really very sweet, Rumil.
Rumil: *grins and blushes just a tiny bit* I'm a big dork and a sucker for a pretty girl. What can I say? Besides, you're fun to talk to, so that's even better.
Idril: Ditto to you, hon. *grins* After dinner, how about a song?
Rumil: I think I can manage that. *waits until the waiter places the food on the table and then continues* I don't have a guitar, so it will just be me and the crickets.
Idril: I don't mind in the least. *smiles and starts eating* What sorts of songs do you like?
Rumil: *starts to list some pop songs, but then realizes she would not know them* Anything with a good melody. I prefer mid-tempo songs, but a ballad can be nice, if it's not too syrupy. Dance music is always good. What about you?
Idril: Oh, I've always liked uncle Kana's music, as well as the children's songs aunt Aredhel sometimes sang to me. Although, I do enjoy those songs men sing in pubs and inns. *grins*
Rumil: Your uncle is legendary. Maybe I can hear her....him sing one day. Pub songs are great! Raunchy, but good fun. *starts singing* If all of the girls were like bricks in a pile...*stops and grins* I'll sing you the rest later.
Idril: *laughs* Please do. *takes another bite of her food* Ada's good, too, when he decides he feels like he's got a little time and no one's around to bother him.
Rumil: *eats a bit* I suspect he doesn't have a lot of free time. Hey, this is really good! *offers her a bite of his steak* Wanna try?
Idril: Sure! *eats off his fork and makes a happy noise* Oh, you're right, it's good. Even though I'm not big on steak!
Rumil: *laughs at her happy noise* Steak is the best. It's like heaven on a plate. *finishes his up in record time*
Idril: *laughs at his description and finishes her food fairly soon after* This was a good choice. We'll have to come here again, maybe once it's warmer. *bright smile*
Rumil: *takes the bill, leaves some money in the envelope and stands* I'll hold you to that. *grins and offers his hand* Shall we?
Idril: *smiles back and takes his hand, getting up* Let's. I'm looking forward to listening to you sing. *squeezes his hand and starts walking*
After dinner, we went to the palace gardens and he finished his little risquee song and then started up on a catchy tune, with the birds chirping in from time to time. It was actually such a great time! Rumil's so funny, too. He's a good friend. I am definitely looking forward to our next date!
