I spent the last hour or so poring over my shortlist for the triple J Hottest 100...OF ALL TIME. Entering puts you in the running to grab tickets to Reading this year (Gossip, Radiohead, Yeah Yeah Yeahs, Arctic Monkeys, Bloc Party, Placebo, Maximo Park, OMG). Clearly these were not decisions to be taken lightly.

1. How great is the new Phoenix album?
2. Yay Racialicious!
3. I don't care if I wasn't welcome, I will still fantasize about my Elizabethan themed wedding.

For a few years now I've always considered that past fantasy from a communist perspective too - whatever race you were, most people were peasants, workers or slaves.

I forget what I was reading...maybe it was something from Keats, but it was some kind of letter or article from the ~1800s and the author was really disturbed that out of the hundreds of thousands (maybe millions?) of slaves alive during classical times only the names of one or two of them were known to historians. Like, that's a whole swathe of people from a period of hundreds of years that was hugely fascinating to literary types in the 19th century, and every single one of their stories had been lost in shadowy anonymity, and whoever was writing whatever it was I was reading was lamenting this loss. But that's life. Doctor Who can't go spend 45 minutes in a hovel with a bunch of peasants. That doesn't make good TV. :P

(but you know what does make good TV? OMG DOCTOR WHO SPOILERZ CAN I TELLS YOU?!)
